School Registered Nurse

Requirements & Qualifications: Active Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license Minimum 2 years of current nursing experience in pediatrics, school health, or an emergency department Current CPR/AED certification Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field preferred Strong pediatric/young adult assessment skills Knowledge of developmental milestones Strong organization and multitasking abilities Comfortable utilizing electronic health records and other computer systems

Must Haves: Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate interventions, referrals, or emergency response Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with specialized health needs Administer medications and maintain documentation in accordance with Connecticut school health requirements Coordinate required student health screenings, immunization compliance, and cumulative health records Participate in school teams as the clinical resource for student health needs Identify and respond to communicable disease concerns within the school environment Provide health education and guidance to students, parents, teachers, and school personnel Delegate and supervise appropriate responsibilities to school health office support staff when applicable Preferred Background & Skills Previous school nursing experience Pediatric nursing background Emergency department experience involving pediatric patients Experience with SNAP Health Center or similar school health documentation systems Experience developing individualized healthcare plans Knowledge of Connecticut school health regulations Experience working with students who have complex or special healthcare needs Strong communication skills with children, parents, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
