The Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciencesat the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College ofMedicine invites applications for an endowed professor in cancerprevention. This position also includes an appointment as aClinical Faculty member within the Humana Integrated Health System Sciences Institute. We seek candidates who have demonstratedexcellence in research and are ready to contribute to our ambitiousvision (http://www.uh.edu/medicine/).The selected faculty will conduct collaborative research within the Institute, Department, College, and University, teach medicalstudents, and mentor faculty and students. Candidates must hold adoctoral degree (e.g., PhD, MD, or DrPH) in a health-related fieldand have a strong track record for securing extramuralfunding. We seek a nationally recognized scholar with: Expertise in cancer prevention and control, including thebiological, behavioral, and social determinants that contribute tocancer outcomes; A demonstrated commitment to improving cancer outcomes for allcommunities, with a focus on improving access among thoseexperiencing disproportionate cancer burdens; A background in community-engaged and participatory research, particularly in the development and implementation of prevention, early detection, and intervention strategies; and/orAn understanding of culturally adapted approaches that impactcancer care, survivorship, or the patient experience. The endowed professor will have the opportunity to: Collaborate with the University of Houston’s Tier Oneresearchers, including cancer biologists and interdisciplinaryscholars across campus; Engage with other cancer researchers in the Texas Medical Center, enhancing collaborative research across the cancer continuum; Contribute to cutting-edge initiatives that advance early cancerdetection, risk assessment, and innovative preventionapproaches; Lead efforts to implement evidence-based prevention programs, shape systems-level change, and train community and healthcareclinicians; and/orDrive product development and commercialization in earlydetection and prevention, working with emerging technologies andearly-stage companies to grow the life sciences ecosystem inTexas. This role is supported by funding to support research and programimplementation, with the ultimate goal of transforming cancerprevention and treatment delivery across Texas and beyond. Furthermore, this faculty member will play a pivotal role inplanning, funding, promoting, and executing programs that alignwith the mission of the Department and Institute. The Humana Integrated Health System Sciences Institute is dedicated toenhancing healthcare value through research, education, andcommunity engagement. Investigators benefit from extensiveinterdisciplinary collaboration opportunities spanning psychology, engineering, health professions, law, and business. Additionally, this role provides opportunities for partnership with the Consortium for Translational and Precision Health, an initiativethat is led by Baylor College of Medicine and the University ofHouston and supported by a newly awarded Clinical and Translational Science Award Program grant. We seek candidates with an active publication record, a history ofextramural funding, and a collaborative orientation towards teamscience. Successful applicants will be expected to maintain anexternally funded research program. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statementofteaching (1-page) and research interests, and names and contactinformation of three references. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, thefollowing:
Primary Responsibilities:
Research Supervising and executing relevant aspects of research projects, including question formulation, study design, study implementation, data analysis, and dissemination of results Securing extramural funding as a principal investigator Building partnerships with researchers and organizations focusedon cancer prevention, care, and outcomes. Participating in research that contributes to the mission of the Humana Institute EducationDeveloping and teaching relevant sessions within the medicalschool curriculum, including quality improvement, populationhealth, participatory methods, cancer epidemiology, and researchdesign Participating in faculty, staff, and student mentoring Clinical (if applicable) Evaluating and treating patients Maintaining an electronic medical record of encounters, diagnostic studies, and referrals Participating in interdisciplinary team-based care ServiceParticipating in service activities that are important to theresearch, curriculum, accreditation, students, and faculty of the College
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field such as public health, implementation science, health services research, or behavioral andsocial sciences, with a focus on cancer prevention, control, oroutcomes.
- Evidence of scholarly productivity
- Teaching experience
- Track record of extramural funding as a principalinvestigator
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with building partnerships across disciplines inpursuit of educational or research objectives
- Experience with cross-disciplinary teaching in an integratedmedical curriculum
- Experience teaching health professions students
- Experience with student mentoring and advising
This is a non-tenure track Clinical Associate or Clinical Professorposition. Rank and salary commensurate with academic achievementsand experience.
