A connector manufacturer with an engineering center in the Binghamton, New York area is hiring a Senior Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of electrical connector products. This is a remote, direct-hire position with about 20% to 25% travel to the Binghamton site. The role takes connectors from concept through production launch, covering injection molded components, contact systems, and electromechanical assemblies. It also includes mentoring junior design engineers.

Compensation
$100,000 to $130,000 per year.
What You'll Do:
You will lead the mechanical design and development of electrical connector products, from concept through production launch. You will design plastic injection molded components, contact systems, and complex electromechanical assemblies. You will create and maintain 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation in Solid Works and ePDM.
You will validate designs using FEA, Moldflow, and tolerance stack-up analysis. You will develop and maintain BOMs, ECNs, specifications, and test plans. You will work with manufacturing, quality, and test teams to bring products into production, and support root cause investigations and continuous improvement using Lean tools such as A3.
You will also mentor junior design engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field
5+ years of product design experience in a manufacturing environment
Direct experience designing electrical connectors, such as circular, rectangular, high-speed, or fiber optic connectors
Experience with connector contact system design, plating, mating cycles, and reliability
Strong experience designing plastic injection molded components
Proficiency with Solid Works and ePDM
Experience with FEA and Moldflow analysis
Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
Experience mentoring less experienced engineers
Ability to travel about 20% to 25%
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with MIL-spec or other industry-standard interconnect systems
High-speed interconnect or signal integrity design experience
Experience with Lean problem-solving tools, such as A3 and root cause analysis
Experience with ANSYS, Abaqus, or Solid Works Simulation
Experience with connector qualification testing, such as EIA-364
Compensation and Benefits:
$100,000 to $130,000 base salary
