Apply for this role →Power Electronics Engineer | High Power | Contract Port Jefferson, New York Contract | Flexible Structure | On-Site Regularly Are you a Power Electronics Engineer who has designed, built and tested high-power converters? Have you worked with 10–100kW systems, 270–800V DC, PFC or DC-DC conversion? Would you be interested in a flexible contract where your expertise can immediately help solve challenging power electronics problems? If so, this opportunity may be the right next step for you. This aerospace and defense organisation is developing advanced power conversion hardware and needs an experienced contractor who can contribute quickly. You'll work directly with the engineering team, getting into the actual hardware rather than operating purely as an advisor. The Power Electronics Engineer will support the design, development and troubleshooting of aerospace power converters operating below 1kV, with particular focus on 10–100kW power levels and 270–800V DC architectures. As the Power Electronics Engineer your responsibilities will include Designing and developing high-power converters from requirements through hardware validation Evaluating PFC, DC-DC and other converter topologies, switching approaches and control loops Designing and reviewing transformers, inductors, EMI filter chokes and power magnetics Supporting schematic capture, PCB development, prototype bring-up, debugging and testing Troubleshooting existing hardware and providing practical engineering solutions to accelerate development As the Power Electronics Engineer you will bring Hands-on experience designing, building and testing power converters or power supplies Experience with 10–100kW systems, 270–800V DC or comparable high-power applications Strong knowledge of PFC, DC-DC conversion and power electronics fundamentals Experience with SiC/GaN devices, power magnetics, schematic or PCB-level development Practical experience taking real hardware through prototype, bring-up, test and troubleshooting Experience with EMI filters, conducted-emissions testing, PLECS, LTspice, Ansys Maxwell, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704 or DO-160 would be particularly valuable. Aerospace experience is not essential. Engineers from EV, automotive, industrial power, energy, semiconductor equipment, space and defence environments are encouraged to apply. The Power Electronics Engineer will be brought in for technical impact: understanding difficult problems quickly, improving designs and helping get hardware successfully through build and test. For an experienced contractor or consultant who still enjoys designing, debugging and getting on the bench, this offers challenging hardware, direct access to the engineering team and a flexible engagement without the commitment of a permanent move. All successful applicants will be contacted within two working days
