Compensation: Up to $400,000 base salary, plus performance bonus and equity
A rapidly growing global data center owner/operator is hiring aGas Leadto own the strategy, development and execution of gas-fired power generation solutions across its expanding U.S. data center portfolio. This position requires a strong understanding oftraditional power generation, with particular emphasis onthermal and natural-gas-fired generation. The successful candidate will understand how gas generation projects are originated, designed, permitted, financed, contracted, constructed and integrated into large-scale data center developments. The Gas Lead will evaluate and deliver behind-the-meter, bridge-power and permanent generation solutions for data center campuses where grid capacity is unavailable, delayed or unable to meet project requirements. This is a senior, commercially focused position combining generation development, technical evaluation, fuel strategy, project execution and stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the company’s gas-fired generation strategy across active and prospective U.S. data center markets. Identify where behind-the-meter, bridge-power, dedicated generation or hybrid power solutions can accelerate data center energization and reduce reliance on constrained utility infrastructure. Evaluate traditional thermal-generation technologies, including reciprocating engines, aeroderivative and industrial gas turbines, simple-cycle generation, combined-cycle generation, combined heat and power, and other dispatchable solutions. Assess generation technologies against data center requirements including capacity, reliability, redundancy, scalability, ramp rate, efficiency, availability, emissions, cost and delivery schedule. Lead the development of gas-generation projects from initial concept and feasibility through commercial operation. Develop project execution strategies covering technology selection, preliminary design, fuel supply, equipment procurement, permitting, interconnection, financing, construction and commissioning. Evaluate natural gas availability for prospective data center sites, including pipeline proximity, capacity, pressure, required lateral infrastructure, compression requirements and delivery constraints. Build and manage relationships with natural gas utilities, interstate and intrastate pipeline operators, local distribution companies, gas marketers, producers and fuel suppliers. Structure reliable fuel-supply strategies, including firm transportation, commodity procurement, storage, balancing, redundancy and contingency arrangements. Work with development and site-selection teams to determine whether prospective locations can support the required gas and generation infrastructure before land or customer commitments are made. Lead engagement with generation developers, independent power producers, utilities, OEMs, EPC contractors, engineering firms and infrastructure investors. Evaluate equipment and delivery proposals from turbine, engine and generation-technology manufacturers. Support negotiations with OEMs and EPC contractors covering equipment supply, engineering, construction, long-term service agreements, performance guarantees and delivery schedules. Develop commercial structures for owner-operated generation, third-party generation, power purchase agreements, tolling arrangements, energy-as-a-service models and other behind-the-meter solutions. Assess the commercial and operational implications of temporary bridge power compared with permanent on-site generation. Lead or support electrical interconnection strategy where generation will operate in parallel with the grid or export power. Coordinate with utilities and system operators on interconnection studies, protection requirements, operational limitations, network upgrades and energization planning. Oversee generation-related feasibility studies, conceptual designs, load profiles, heat-rate assessments, equipment configurations and capital-cost estimates. Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, risk registers, development plans and investment recommendations. Identify risks associated with fuel availability, equipment lead times, interconnection, permitting, emissions, construction, reliability, cost and project delivery. Work closely with environmental and permitting teams on air permits, emissions requirements, noise limits, water requirements and other regulatory considerations affecting thermal-generation projects. Monitor federal, state and local regulations affecting gas-fired generation, emissions, fuel infrastructure and behind-the-meter power. Coordinate generation strategy across development, commercial, engineering, construction, environmental, finance, legal, operations and customer-facing teams. Translate complex generation, fuel and infrastructure considerations into clear recommendations for senior leadership, investment committees and customers. Support customer discussions by presenting credible power-delivery strategies, timelines, costs and risk-mitigation plans. Build the internal processes, technical standards, commercial frameworks and external partnerships required to scale gas-generation deployment across the portfolio.
Required Experience: Significant experience acrosstraditional power generation, thermal generation, gas-fired power development, independent power production or large-scale energy infrastructure .Direct experience developing, evaluating or delivering natural-gas-fired generation projects. Strong knowledge of thermal-generation technologies, particularly gas turbines, reciprocating engines, simple-cycle or combined-cycle plants, and behind-the-meter generation. Experience taking generation projects through multiple stages of development, including feasibility, siting, engineering, fuel supply, permitting, procurement, contracting, construction and commissioning. Understanding of natural gas infrastructure, including pipelines, lateral connections, capacity, pressure, transportation arrangements, fuel procurement and supply reliability. Experience working with gas utilities, pipeline operators, generation developers, OEMs, EPC contractors, engineering consultants and energy suppliers. Strong understanding of generation economics, including capital expenditure, operating expenditure, heat rate, fuel cost, capacity factor, efficiency and long-term maintenance requirements. Familiarity with commercial structures such as PPAs, tolling agreements, energy-service agreements, fuel-supply agreements, equipment-supply agreements and long-term service agreements. Understanding of air permitting, emissions requirements and environmental considerations affecting gas-fired and thermal-generation assets. Ability to evaluate the relationship between generation capacity, data center load requirements, reliability standards, energization schedules and customer commitments. Experience presenting technical and commercial recommendations to senior executives, investment committees, customers and project partners. Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance technical performance, project schedule, cost, regulatory risk and long-term operational requirements.
Preferred Background: Candidates may come from organizations including: Independent power producers and conventional generation developers Natural gas or thermal-generation companies Utilities and generation-owning utilities Turbine, engine or power-equipment manufacturersEPC contractors and power-engineering firms Energy infrastructure investors Large industrial power users with self-generation strategies Experience within data centers is valuable but is not essential where the candidate has substantial thermal-generation expertise and can apply that knowledge to large, mission-critical loads. Candidates whose experience is limited to renewable energy, utility procurement or general energy strategy without direct exposure to traditional thermal or gas-fired generation are unlikely to be suitable.
The Opportunity: This is an opportunity to build and lead the gas-generation strategy for a fast-growing global data center platform at a time when access to reliable, scalable and rapidly deliverable power is becoming the defining constraint on data center development. The Gas Lead will have significant influence over technology selection, commercial strategy, project development and capital deployment across a major U.S. portfolio. The position offers a base salary of up to$400,000, alongside a performance-related bonus and a meaningful equity package.
