Work Schedule:
10 months, Monday to Friday, 191 days Minimum Starting Salary: $ 23,000 Negotiable at the time of job offer. Position Definition: The person holding this position will be responsible for increasing young adults' hard and soft skills in the community with a focus on preparing students for successful transition from school to adult services. This includes, but is not limited to, coaching young adults within local businesses and supporting community exposure with a focus on the following as they apply to each student: job duties, transferrable skills, social behaviors, communication, appearance, safety awareness and independence.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED. Must have a valid driver's license. Excellent driving record. Experience with transporting students, preferred. Associate degree or Highly Qualified Status, preferred. Skills/Knowledge: Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated by patience, understanding, and congeniality. Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates general knowledge of Carbon and Lehigh Counties pertaining to location of cities, towns, schools, and businesses. Demonstrates the ability to proficiently collect data and complete reports related to student achievement. Demonstrates the ability to utilize an iPad efficiently. Demonstrates the ability to maintain composure while driving a vehicle with students on board. Demonstrates the ability to organize, plan, and manage job responsibilities in order to complete assignments with minimum supervision. Demonstrates the ability to work independently with three to four students in the community. Demonstrates knowledge of Special Programs and Services departmental procedures. Demonstrates awareness of student's disability, including student's related service needs, as they relate to the implications in the work place and the effects in transitioning to adult life. Demonstrates the ability to execute job tasks and break activities down into small steps. Demonstrates flexibility in the work day. Demonstrates the ability to maintain complete confidentiality. Demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrates the ability to complete tasks with attention to detail and accuracy. Engages in activities to increase one's own knowledge and skills, completing twenty hours of professional development annually. Attends work regularly at assigned work hours subject to lawful leave rights and responsibilities. Physical: Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, and communicate (vision, hearing, and speech) to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities. Ability to independently ambulate in and around work areas. Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support. Ability to exhibit appropriate manual dexterity to effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities. Ability to conduct a safety restraint protocol which requires: a normal degree of flexibility; the ability to stand, walk, run, and shuffle for at least several minutes; the ability to kneel on one and two knees and then stand up; the ability to bend the trunk at 45 degrees and twist to either side; the ability to grasp firmly and raise hands above the head; the ability to learn and correctly demonstrate multi-step physical skills. Authority: The Job Coach will have the authority to perform all functions listed below in accordance with established policies and procedures. Functions/Duties/Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function/duty/responsibility at acceptable standards. In accordance with both state and/or federal law, reasonable accommodations will be considered upon employee request. Essential: Communicates with students of varying disabilities clearly, precisely, and with respect and sensitivity. Effectively multi-tasks within deadlines, in accordance with WBL guidelines. Utilizes technology effectively, including, but not limited to, internet, email, iPads, and GPS. Participates effectively in implementing the IEP after reviewing the referral form indicating specific specially designed instructions and accommodations and, if needed, consulting WBL Teacher and in accordance with WBL guidelines. Demonstrates sensitivity to the diversity of individuals, students, and families. Provides small group support for students at local businesses and community exposure activities. Monitors, models, and/or assists students to guarantee skill development while in the community with students. Maintains a safe learning environment by using universal precautions, independent community travel strategies, and behavioral/social interventions. Delivers instructional and related service strategies and uses equipment, materials, and technologies to accomplish individual student objectives, in accordance with the IEP and WBL guidelines. Accurately monitors, records, and reports the progress of each student, as directed through the use of WBL tools, such as, but not limited to, task analysis, observational data, rubrics, graphs, and narratives. Follows itinerant daily scheduling of students. Exercises objective and prudent judgment in making decisions and considering alternatives in making decisions. Communicates consistently with the Supervisor and/or WBL teachers regarding pertinent information about concerns regarding schedules, sites, students, parents, and teachers. Serves as an employer liaison, maintaining a positive and respectful work relationship with work site staff, supervisors, and other program staff, treating each equitably and professionally. Assists in developing business sites, including researching available and appropriate job sites, making initial business contacts, distributing program information, and getting contracts signed.
