In the role of Substation Engineer, you'll step into a leadership or supporting position across a range of utility and power substation engagements. You should bring hands-on experience with substation projects spanning 34.5kV to 500kV, along with a proven ability to foster strong working relationships with clients and stakeholders across the Power & Utility sector.
Core Responsibilities: Produce substation layout documentation — including plan and elevation drawings, yard layouts, grounding systems and details, raceway designs, control building arrangements, cable lists, and material takeoffs — for both new builds and existing facilities. Create and maintain substation electrical documentation such as one-lines, three-lines, Auxiliary AC and DC Power Systems, DC Schematics, SCADA and Communications diagrams, Relay Panel Layouts, Equipment Wiring diagrams, and Cable Schedules. Develop engineering calculations and compile reports to present findings clearly to clients. Draft detailed equipment specifications covering substation hardware, components, and construction requirements. Own the technical, financial, and scheduling delivery of substation projects from start to finish. Step into project manager, client manager, or proposal/capture manager roles as needed. Cultivate the skills, resources, and expertise required to deliver strategic services, partnerships, and projects effectively. Partner with internal teams to pursue substation opportunities on both a regional and national scale, growing the firm's footprint in the power delivery market. Conduct QA/QC reviews to uphold quality standards. Guide and mentor a team of engineers and technical specialists while building lasting client relationships and collaborating across disciplines and office locations. Play an active role in developing proposals, bids, reports, and client presentations.
What You'll Bring: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum).A Professional Engineer license, or active progress toward licensure.3+ years of progressive experience in design, engineering, and project management within the power and utility industry. Familiarity with or direct experience in consulting engineering environments. Proficiency with project management tools such as Microsoft Project or equivalent platforms for managing scope, schedule, and budget. Hands-on design experience with high voltage substations and distribution systems. A track record of delivering high-quality technical solutions on major power delivery projects. A drive for strong business performance, continuous improvement, and best-in-class practices.
