The City Attorney is also expected to keep every elected official equally informed, providing the same legal information at the same time so the entire Council can move forward with clarity and confidence. In terms of requirements, Grand Junction’s City Charter states, “At the time of appointment, the City Attorney must have at least five years of experience in the active practice of law in the State of Colorado.” The position requires a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and licensure to practice law in Colorado, with five to ten years of increasingly responsible experience.
