As the business continues to expand and modernize its operations, they are seeking a Director of Materials Management to lead warehouse operations, inventory strategy, maintenance spares management, and materials execution at a large-scale industrial site. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for someone who thrives in complex manufacturing environments and enjoys building scalable processes, developing teams, and driving operational excellence.
The Opportunity:
This role will provide strategic and operational leadership across warehouse operations, inventory management, maintenance materials, and material flow processes supporting a critical industrial operation. The Director will be responsible for improving inventory accuracy, material availability, warehouse efficiency, and site reliability while driving transformation initiatives focused on automation, digitization, SAP optimization, and continuous improvement. This position partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and EHS leadership and plays a critical role in supporting plant performance and long-term growth objectives. What You'll Own Materials & Inventory Management Lead all site materials management and inventory control functions. Develop strategies to optimize inventory levels while ensuring operational reliability. Improve inventory accuracy, inventory turns, and working capital performance. Oversee material traceability, inventory governance, and cycle count programs. Drive inventory optimization initiatives including safety stock, min/max planning, and inventory reduction efforts. Warehouse Operations Manage receiving, storage, staging, inventory control, and material distribution activities. Optimize warehouse processes, workflows, and physical space utilization. Develop scalable warehouse procedures and best practices. Ensure uninterrupted material flow to support production and maintenance requirements. Maintenance Spares & Reliability Support Lead critical spare parts and MRO inventory strategies. Partner with Maintenance and Operations teams to improve equipment readiness and plant uptime. Implement best practices around spare-parts planning, asset recovery, consignment inventory, and vendor-managed inventory programs. Support reliability initiatives through effective materials planning and inventory management. Digital Transformation & Continuous Improvement Utilize SAP and ERP systems to improve planning, visibility, reporting, and operational decision-making. Lead warehouse automation, digitization, barcoding, RFID, and inventory tracking initiatives. Develop KPI dashboards and performance management tools. Drive continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean methodologies and data-driven decision making. Leadership Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing materials management organization. Foster a culture centered around accountability, safety, operational discipline, and continuous improvement. Serve as a hands-on leader who enjoys partnering directly with site teams and spending time on the plant floor. Ideal Background 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in: Materials Management Warehouse Operations Inventory Management Supply Chain Operations Manufacturing Materials Planning Experience within: Mining Metals Chemical Processing Energy Refining Heavy Manufacturing Industrial Processing Strong experience with: SAP or ERP systems Inventory optimization Maintenance spares and MRO programs Warehouse operations Material planning and inventory control Continuous improvement and process transformation Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and EHS teams.
