Mission The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is toprovide the highest quality clinical care in both specialty andsub-specialty obstetrics and gynecology to patients in central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, the department hasthe allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medicaleducation in the field and advancing the specialty through basicand clinical research. The Department faculty has a responsibility to provide service totheir profession and to the University Community.
Chief Purpose The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Division Chief to lead and manage the clinical, research, and educationalprograms for the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. The divisionhas six Maternal Fetal Medicine subspecialists. The Division has anew ACGME approved Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship program whosefirst fellow started in 2024. The incumbent will have skill andexperience in leadership and administration, and have a nationalreputation for clinical care, teaching, and research. VCU has agrowing OB population with 3200 deliveries in 2024 and a Level 4NICU that is expanding to 60 babies. The division practices thefull scope of the subspecialty including an active in- andoutpatient high risk obstetric service, including ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, and fetal therapy.
Responsibilities:
Teaching |Teaching responsibilities to include activelyparticipating in the department’s educational activities, withparticular attention to educating students, residents, and fellowsin their core educational objectives in maternal fetalmedicine.
Research |This position will lead the Division’sresearch program and initiate projects as well as participate inand facilitate other division member’s research and contribute toscholarly publications/presentations.
Service |This position will serve on departmental, hospital, and university committees as necessary, as well as in aprofessional capacity in their field. The incumbent will beassigned to committees at the discretion of the departmentchair.
Clinical |Leadership and administration of the clinicalpractice and participation in the full clinical activities of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division is expected. The divisionpractices the full scope of the subspecialty including an activein- and outpatient high risk obstetric service, includingultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, and fetal therapy.
Other |In this role as Division Chief for Maternal Fetal Medicine, the incumbent will lead the Division, withresponsibilities for growth of clinical volume and implementationof state of the science clinical programs, strategic planning, quality improvement, and fostering maternal fetal medicine relatedcommunication and relations within the Department, VCU Health, andcommunity. The Division Chief is responsible for the careerdevelopment of faculty in their division.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of ACGME or ABOG accredited fellowship training in Maternal Fetal Medicine or its equivalent
Ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license in Virginia
Effective supervisory, leadership, and management skills
Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complementand expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Certified by the American Board of OB/GYN in Maternal Fetal Medicine
