Role Overview:
The welding youth apprentice program is designed for high school students interested in exploring a career in welding and fabrication. Apprentices will work under the guidance of experienced welders and supervisors to learn the fundamentals of welding, safety practices, and the operations of a steel fabrication shop. This position is part-time during the school year, with the potential for additional hours during school breaks.
Primary Responsibilities:
Learn and practice basic welding techniques MIG and flux core welding.
Assist with measuring, cutting, grinding, and preparing materials for welding.
Follow all company safety procedures and use personal protective equipment.
Support shop staff with general tasks such as material handling and cleanup.
Gain exposure to reading and interpreting blueprints and shop drawings.
Demonstrate reliability, willingness to learn, and teamwork.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled and attending high school or college program with interest in the welding field.
- Strong interest in welding and skilled trades.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees and supervisors.
- Good attendance and work ethic.
- Must be 16 years old.
