Position Summary:
The Communications Coordinator supports the execution of URC's communications strategy across digital, print, and community channels, and serves as the go-to resource for marketing materials and outreach needs across URC's program teams. This role is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented, creative communicator who anticipates needs, is fluent in project management and design/video editing tools, enjoys interviewing people, shaping narratives, and coordinating filming and content production. Working closely with the Director of Communications, the Coordinator helps maintain URC's public presence, manages day-to-day communications tasks, and ensures brand consistency across all platforms. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in San Diego, CA (3 days in-office, 2 days remote). The role requires regular weekday availability, with occasional evening and weekend work to support events, interviews, and filming needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Storytelling and Multimedia Plan and support storytelling projects that highlight workers, families, and community partners Conduct interviews (in-person and virtually) with program participants, staff, and partners to capture impactful stories Organize and maintain digital media libraries Coordinate and support on-site filming for interviews, events, and program activities, including scheduling and logistics Assist with capturing video and photo content for use across social media, website, and campaigns Add basic captions and branding elements to video and photo content, as needed Event Promotion and Media Support Develop and execute promotional strategies for URC-hosted events, orientations, and community gatherings Promote events through digital and print channels before, during, and after key activities Support public relations efforts, including drafting press releases and coordinating media outreach Attend and assist with weekend or evening events, as needed Social Media and Digital Communications Turn stories and interviews into engaging content for social media, email newsletters, and the website Support the development of short video reels, testimonial clips, and other visual storytelling formats Manage URC's social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Linked In) to grow and engage audiences Graphic Design and Marketing Materials Design digital and print materials such as flyers, event programs, and presentations Assist with layout and brand compliance for internal and external communications Website and Email Management Update and maintain website content for accuracy and accessibility Draft and distribute e-newsletters, program updates, and event announcements Cross-Departmental Support Serve as the primary point of support for all marketing material and outreach needs across URC program teams Collaborate with program teams to amplify stories of impact and highlight member experiences Provide communications support for internal tools, reports, and advocacy materials Event Logistics and Inventory Support event logistics for URC-hosted events and gatherings as needed, including venue coordination, materials transport, and day-of setup/breakdown Maintain inventory of URC merchandise, equipment, and marketing materials, including tracking stock levels and coordinating reorders Proactively identify and flag communications needs, opportunities, and gaps before being asked

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field — or equivalent experience 1–3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related role Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills Fully knowledgeable in project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello, Monday.com)Proficient in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (including Premiere Pro and Photoshop), and Google Workspace, with hands-on video editing, photo editing, and digital design skills Proficiency with social media platforms Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred but not required Ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines Self-starter who takes initiative and anticipates needs without close direction Commitment to URC's mission and an interest in social and economic justice Work Schedule and Location Full-time, hybrid role based at URC's San Diego office: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote Standard schedule: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday Occasional evenings and weekends required for off-site events, interviews, and filming, consistent with this role's exempt status Physical Requirements and
Work Environment:
Ability to lift and carry event and filming equipment (up to approximately 25 lbs)Ability to stand, walk, and remain mobile for extended periods at events and filming locations Ability to travel locally to program sites, community events, and partner locations, as needed
