Baker Gulf Coast Industrial, a business unit of Baker Construction, is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and oversee all aspects of project safety performance across industrial construction operations. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs supporting piledriving, crane and rigging activities, heavy equipment operations, deep foundation work, and other high-risk construction activities. The Safety Manager serves as a key member of the project leadership team, providing safety leadership, regulatory guidance, field oversight, and risk management to ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Compliance: Develop, implement, and continuously improve project-specific safety programs and initiatives. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, client requirements, and industry best practices. Provide safety leadership and guidance to project teams, supervisors, and craft professionals. Foster a strong safety culture that emphasizes personal accountability, hazard recognition, and proactive risk mitigation.
Field Safety Oversight: Oversee safety technicians and field safety activities across assigned projects. Perform routine site audits, inspections, and observations to identify hazards and verify compliance. Monitor and evaluate high-risk work activities, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and maintained. Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or behaviors present unacceptable risk.
Risk Assessment & Work Planning:
  • Review and approve Method Task Analyses (MTAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), lift plans, and other safety-related planning documents.
  • Evaluate project activities involving pile-driving operations, cranes, rigging, heavy equipment, deep excavations, and specialized foundation systems.
  • Verify that exclusion zones, suspended-load controls, line-of-fire protections, and other critical safeguards are effectively established and maintained.
  • Equipment & Operational Safety
  • Conduct inspections and audits of:
  • Pile-driving rigs and equipment
  • Cranes and lifting devices
  • Rigging systems
  • Hammers and leads
  • Fall protection systems
  • Excavations and trenching activities
  • Hot work operations
  • Hazardous materials management
  • Heavy equipment operations
  • Incident Management & Reporting
  • Lead incident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations.
  • Identify root causes and develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track and analyze safety trends to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and regulatory documentation.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.5+ years of construction safety experience, including industrial, heavy civil, foundation, marine, or energy-related projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Experience supporting crane and rigging operations, heavy equipment, excavation activities, and high-risk industrial construction work.
  • Proven ability to conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in active construction environments and travel as required.
  • OSHA 500 or equivalent credentials.
  • Construction Site Safety Technician (CSST) certification
  • Experience supporting piledriving, deep foundation, marine, industrial, power, or process construction projects.
  • First Aid, CPR, and emergency response certifications.
