Mississippi ExCEEDS – Expanding and Cultivating Educational Excellence through Direct Service – members will serve as learning mentors to middle and high school students in local school districts and afterschool/summer enrichment programs. Learning mentors will empower today’s youth through skill-building strategies that help students stay engaged, build confidence, and achieve academic success. Serving on average 20 hours a week for 11 months, you will be paired with specific students to conduct daily 1-on-1 learning sessions and small group student support sessions. Learning mentors will also participate in training and ongoing support that will ensure your success as a mentor.
Member Duties: Half Time Learning mentors serve a minimum of 900 hours, or on average 20 hours per week. Learning mentors are paired with specific students and for each student in their portfolio, and will conduct up to six (6) 30 minute Learning Mentorship session per day, up to 5 days per week during the school year. The member may conduct small group (2-4 students) student support sessions as needed. LMs will create and maintain a Learning Engagement Plan for each student in their portfolio. LMs will compile and track student data including goals, progress and skill attainment. The LEP will include observational data from members, site staff, and from student input. LMs will use data from LEPs to plan future session activities based on skill and concept sequencing. Members are required to participate in pre-service and on-going training sessions, and days of service throughout their year of service.
