Apply for this role (opens in a new tab)CFI Consultants is looking for an experienced Director of Information Technology to lead and build our technology function. This person will directly manage an established technology team, oversee key technology and managed-service relationships, and work directly with CFI leadership to determine how technology can improve our operations and the services we provide to clients. This is not a traditional IT support-management role. We are looking for a proactive technology leader who can strengthen day-to-day IT operations while helping us deploy artificial intelligence, connect systems through APIs and automation, improve legal and business technology platforms, and support the development of proprietary technology solutions for the litigation and insurance industries. The right person will not simply solve the issue in front of them. They will identify what caused it, understand what else it affects, anticipate what comes next, and develop a solution that can scale. WHAT YOU'LL OWN • Lead, mentor, and develop CFI's existing technology team, establishing clear responsibilities, priorities, performance expectations, and professional-development goals. • Develop and execute a practical technology roadmap aligned with CFI's growth, client needs, security requirements, and business objectives. • Serve as a senior internal technology resource for Microsoft 365, Entra ID / Active Directory, SharePoint, Teams, endpoint administration, identity and access management, Power BI, and related Microsoft technologies. • Manage CFI's technology vendors and managed-service relationships, including reviewing recommendations, escalating issues, evaluating proposals, and recommending changes when better solutions are available. • Oversee technology strategy, implementation, and support for CFI clients, which may include law firms, insurance carriers, insureds, and other organizations involved in litigation and claims. • Lead the evaluation and deployment of AI, workflow automation, APIs, integrations, reporting solutions, and emerging technologies that can improve operational efficiency and client service. • Help optimize and connect platforms including Microsoft 365, Filevine, Power BI, RO.AM, Trello, GitHub, Jotform, Knack, Text Expander, Lexis+ Protégé, and other SaaS and legal-technology applications. • Support and oversee CFI's growing product-development efforts, translating real-world litigation and operational challenges into practical technology solutions and helping guide projects from concept through testing, deployment, and continued improvement. WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DIFFERENTCFI is expanding beyond traditional technology support. We are increasingly focused on legal technology, AI, automation, data, system integrations, and proprietary technology-enabled services designed around the needs of law firms, insurance organizations, and litigation professionals. The Director will have the opportunity to influence what we build, what we buy, what we automate, and how technology becomes part of the services CFI delivers to its clients. We want someone who sees a recurring operational problem and asks:"Should we build a better solution for this?"
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of progressive information technology experience with demonstrated growth into technical leadership, systems ownership, project implementation, or technology strategy. Strong candidates should bring:
- Experience leading, supervising, or mentoring technology professionals.
- Strong Microsoft 365, Entra ID / Active Directory, identity, endpoint, and cloud-technology knowledge.
- Microsoft certification strongly preferred, particularly in Microsoft 365, Azure, security, identity, endpoint management, or Power Platform.
- Experience managing managed-service providers, technology vendors, consultants, or other outside technical resources.
- Strong project-management and organizational skills.
- Experience implementing technology from planning and requirements through testing, deployment, training, and ongoing support.
- Working knowledge of APIs, integrations, databases, and how information moves between business applications.
- Familiarity with software-development processes, GitHub/source control, and working with developers or outside development resources.
- Experience with Power BI, Power Platform, automation, or comparable reporting and low-code technologies.
- Practical knowledge of cybersecurity, access controls, endpoint management, backup/recovery, and technology governance.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, attorneys, consultants, technical teams, vendors, and end users.
- A demonstrated interest in AI implementation and the ability to distinguish between an interesting technology and a useful business solution. Experience with Filevine, legal technology, law-firm operations, insurance or claims technology, professional services, or technology product development is highly desirable. THE PERSON WE'RE LOOKING FORTechnical expertise is only part of this role. We want someone who:
- Thinks several steps ahead.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting for direction.
- Develops people instead of simply assigning work.
- Is comfortable challenging existing processes and technology decisions.
- Can move between strategy and hands-on problem solving.
- Understands that growing organizations need scalable solutions without unnecessary enterprise complexity.
- Can translate business problems into technology solutions.
- Is excited by the opportunity to help build a technology function rather than inherit a finished one.
REPORTING AND WORK ENVIRONMENTThe Director of Information Technology will report directly to CFI's Managing Partner and will directly supervise CFI's existing technology team.
The position is based in West Orange, New Jersey. The successful candidate should expect to work primarily in person during the initial transition and team-development period.
Hybrid flexibility is available once team goals, processes, and performance expectations are established.
Occasional travel to law firms, client offices, or other locations outside New Jersey may be required for technology assessments, implementations, and projects.
