Description: JOBSUMMARYThis position isresponsible for ensuring that all surgical supplies, instruments and equipmentare properly inventoried, decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed, and tracked in a quality/timely mannerthroughout the hospital and its affiliates. Works independently with little supervision. Adheres to establisheddepartmental and organizational processes, procedures, and policies. Strives for superior performance byconsistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that isrecognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and familyexperience. Recognizes and demonstratesunderstanding of patient and family centered care. PRIMARYJOB RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms duties as a SPD Techindependently and worksproficiently without supervision. Identifies and uses appropriate methods andsolutions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect instruments. Appropriately handles garbage, linen and biohazardous materials. Maintains safety standards. Consistently uses count sheets tocorrectly assemble, protect, wrap, containerize and/or peel package and labelinstruments. Identifies and inspectsinstruments for cleanliness and functionality. Properly handles and storessterile supplies and instruments. Selects appropriate sterilizationmethods according to manufacturer s instructions for use. Knows and follows correctprinciples of sterilization. Properly documents and verifiessterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficacy of thesterilization process. Knows uses, maintains and operatesthe equipment specific to Sterile Processing, i.e. steam, Sterrad, Medivator, cart washer, instrument washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners and heatsealers as well as a variety of testing devices. Knows and uses the processesinvolved in ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating delivering and monitoringusage of surgical supplies. Communicates supply issues toappropriate personnel in a timely manner. Maintains a clean orderly workarea. Completes assigned housekeepingduties. Demonstrates knowledge of andsupports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies andprocedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporatecompliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
