Information Governance Specialist We are recruiting on behalf of a leading global law firm known for representing top-tier corporations, financial institutions, and funds across critical global transactions and complex disputes. Renowned for combining deep commercial acumen with a collaborative culture, the firm delivers world-class service while fostering an environment where professionals are empowered to grow, innovate, and make a measurable impact across an integrated global platform. If you thrive in an environment defined by initiative, meticulous standards, and responsive client service, this is a prime opportunity to join the firm's Information Governance (IG) team. The Information Governance Specialist plays a central role in shaping, driving, and executing the firm's enterprise Information Governance Program. You will ensure comprehensive compliance with data privacy, confidentiality obligations, information security frameworks, regulatory guidelines, and internal governance policies. This position bridges the gap between technology, risk, and legal operations. Working closely with Information Security, Legal Risk, and Business Services teams, you will oversee electronic legal records throughout their entire lifecycle—from intake and active retention to cross-system migration, unstructured data remediation, and defensible disposition. You will also serve as a subject-matter advisor to attorneys, practice groups, and staff on data security, privacy, and retention best practices.
Core Responsibilities: Oversee matter mobility workflows, coordinating with partners, IG leadership, IT teams, and external counsel to securely transfer client files for lateral partner transitions, departures, and formal client transfer requests. Drive operational execution of the Global Records Retention and Disposition Policy across legal practices and operational business units. Guide and monitor personnel departure workflows, including access management, task delegation, records stewardship, and risk mitigation. Direct large-scale data retention initiatives, audits, and migration projects for both firm-level and client-matter data. Analyze complex data sets to identify unstructured client files, formulate remediation plans, and execute data migrations into authorized repositories. Audit recordkeeping workflows and approved document stores to confirm adherence to firm policies and client outside-counsel guidelines. Champion firm-wide adoption of electronic document management systems (DMS), driving behavioral and operational shifts toward modern recordkeeping practices. Provide clear guidance to attorneys and staff regarding authorized data storage locations, access tiers, and security protocols. Serve as lead on designated IG initiatives—delegating tasks, tracking timelines, and ensuring rigorous quality assurance across deliverables. Consult with attorneys, paralegals, and practice teams on information protection, retention schedules, and sensitive client file transfers. Identify operational gaps and regulatory risks, proposing actionable enhancements to leadership to strengthen global information governance. Stay current on international data protection developments, ethical recordkeeping obligations, and emerging legal tech solutions.
