Offsite: Herricks, Centereach and Searing town School Districts The After School Counselor is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment where children feel supported and engaged.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet the individual needs of children by engaging with them through play, exploration, and learning opportunities
- Communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with parents, guardians, and fellow staff members
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment where children feel valued and supported
- Assist in designing and maintaining an After School space that supports active supervision and meets the developmental needs of children
- Support children in completing their schoolwork, and offering guidance and encouragement as needed
- Communicate frequently with Site Director and Assistant Directors
- Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times, following all JCC and OCFS safety guidelines
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to team planning and reflection
- Complete the required number of annual training hours in accordance with New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) regulations
