Garden City Public Schools ~ Notice of Vacancy The Cougar's Corner Supervisor helps operate Cougar's Corner as a real-world business while providing students with a safe, structured, and supportive environment in which to develop workplace skills. The Supervisor provides daily oversight, hands-on guidance, and operational support as students apply their classroom learning in an authentic retail setting. The Cougar's Corner Supervisor works collaboratively with the Business Teacher. The Teacher is responsible for classroom instruction, curriculum, grading, and overall educational direction. The Supervisor reinforces that instruction through hands-on supervision and management of the store's daily operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Student Supervision & Training
  • Supervise students in the store, kitchen, and stock areas
  • Manage student schedules and daily job assignments
  • Train students on POS, customer service, store procedures, and workplace expectations
  • Address student concerns and communicate ongoing issues to the teacher
  • Cash & Store Operations
  • Count and verify cash drawers with student cashiers
  • Check daily sales and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare daily cash for the school bookkeeper
  • Help keep the store organized and running smoothly
  • Ordering & Inventory
  • Monitor and order food, snacks, merchandise, and supplies
  • Ensure food items meet Smart Snacks in School requirements
  • Purchase needed supplies from local stores such as Sam's Club or Costco
  • Receive deliveries and oversee proper inventory rotation using first in, first out (FIFO)
  • Safety & Security
  • Supervise safe use of ovens, popcorn machine, and other equipment
  • Reinforce food safety, cleaning, and sanitation procedures
  • Active supervision of Cougar's Corner and storage areas
  • Secure equipment, supplies, and storage areas
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with high school students, preferred
  • Experience in retail sales, preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to use relevant technology for the position
  • Ability to interact professionally and positively with students, staff, and the school community
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining regular communication with the Business Teacher and Building Administrators
