Minimum Qualifications: Three (3) years of related experience with knowledge in the specialized field of painting is required. A valid Texas Driver's license is required, and it must be in possession at all times when operating an AISD vehicle. Education requirements are not specified.
Skill Requirements: This position requires the incumbent to have knowledge of the tools and equipment used, and paint mixing. Incumbent must be able to use proper solvents in each type of paint, be able to know the type of paint to use, and have skills in using brushes, rollers and spray equipment, and care of each. Incumbent should be able to mix colors to match other colors. Employees in this position must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and where appropriate, visitors and students.
Job Purpose and Responsibility: Under general supervision, apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district. This position is responsible for painting exterior and interior AISD buildings.
Essential Functions: Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings. Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors. Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces. Paint classrooms and building exteriors. Mark parking areas and touch up painting. Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level. Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records. Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
Austin ISD Job Description: Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment. Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.   • Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Will have direct supervision of the Maintenance Apprentice in this craft. Incumbent will provide guidance and consultation to the Section Foreman and other School Plan and Maintenance and Operations personnel.
