Training for takeoff\n Your career starts with approximately seven weeks of immersive flight attendant training at our world-class headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. During training, you'll receive your base assignment and learn the safety procedures, customer service standards and operational skills needed to become a certified flight attendant. \n While training is unpaid, American is committed to supporting you throughout your journey. Trainees receive single-occupancy hotel accommodations, three daily meals and access to on-campus amenities, including a fitness center, pool, trails and bike paths. Important training information\n Candidates selected through this requisition are expected to begin training in early 2027. What you'll do: Lead with safety\n Safety is our highest priority. Flight attendants are responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company policies while maintaining a safe environment for customers and crew members. \n \n Conduct safety demonstrations and pre-flight safety checks \n Respond effectively to onboard emergencies, medical situations and security concerns \n Operate emergency equipment and assist with evacuations when necessary \n Deliver elevated customer experiences\n Flight attendants create positive travel experiences by delivering genuine hospitality, personalized service and thoughtful support to passengers of all backgrounds throughout every stage of their journey. \n \n Welcome and assist customers from boarding through arrival \n Anticipate needs, resolve concerns, and build customer loyalty through caring interactions \n Serve food and beverages, including alcohol, in accordance with company standards \n Collaborate as one team\n Success depends on teamwork. Flight attendants work closely with fellow crew members to deliver safe, reliable and exceptional service. \n \n Demonstrate accountability, dependability and flexibility in a fast-paced operation \n Communicate effectively during routine and irregular operations \n Treat customers, colleagues and business partners with respect and professionalism \n All you'll need for success\n \n Must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application \n High school diploma or GED equivalent required \n Minimum of two years of customer service experience in customer-focused industries, or equivalent experience gained through relevant training or coursework \n Must possess a valid U.S. or foreign passport with applicable visas and documentation valid through at least December 31, 2027 \n \n Passport book must be in hand at the time of application; pending applications or renewals will not be accepted \n Must have the legal right to work in the United States and ability to travel unrestricted to and from all states and countries that are served by American Airlines \n \n Must be willing to relocate based on the company’s operational needs \n Flight attendants are expected to maintain a professional appearance while representing the American Airlines brand and must comply with all uniform and grooming standards, including: \n \n Hair should be neatly styled; if it falls below the shoulders, it must be secured \n Facial hair must be at least ¼ inch but no more than 1 inch in length and must be maintained in a clean, neat and well-groomed condition \n No visible tattoos or body art \n No ear gauges or more than one (1) earring per earlobe \n No facial piercings or decorative dental embellishments \n \n Required skills and competencies\n Successful candidates demonstrate the following skills and abilities: \n \n Ability to read, write, speak and communicate fluently in English, including making public announcements and issuing emergency instructions \n \n Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable. Preferred language qualifications include: Cantonese, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish \n \n Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to quickly build rapport and deliver exceptional customer service \n Commitment to safety and the ability to perform all required safety procedures and emergency protocols \n Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective while managing and assisting passengers and crew members during emergencies, medical situations, operational disruptions, and other high-pressure situations \n Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and adaptability skills \n Demonstrated dependability, accountability, and reliable attendance \n Positive attitude, self-motivation, and commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences \n Ability to use electronic devices and company technology platforms, including tablets, mobile devices, and computers \n Ability to operate aircraft safety and emergency equipment, including oxygen systems, aircraft doors, evacuation slides, fire extinguishers, life rafts, galley and communication systems \n Physical requirements\n Candidates must be able to perform the essential physical functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation: \n \n Maneuver beverage carts requiring up to 60 pounds of push and pull force \n Operate aircraft doors and emergency exits requiring up to 34 pounds of lifting force and up to 55 pounds of push/pull force \n Reach and operate equipment located up to 64 inches above the floor \n Sit in an assigned jumpseat and secure all required safety restraints without modifications or extenders \n Move freely throughout the aircraft cabin and operate all emergency exits \n Stand, walk, kneel, bend, squat, stretch, reach, lift and carry items throughout the duration of a flight \n Lift and assist with customer baggage, including placing items in overhead storage compartments \n Successfully complete all required safety drills and emergency evacuation exercises, including water evacuation training \n What you'll get\n Our commitment to caring for customers begins with caring for the people who serve them.
