About the Role: A boutique fund is building out its approach to AI across the business, and is looking for someone to lead it. The scope spans research, infrastructure, and applied tooling, with real latitude to define what that looks like. This is a senior, high-visibility seat for someone who wants to set the direction rather than execute someone else's roadmap.
What You'll Do:
  • Define and lead the firm's AI strategy across research, investment, and operational functions
  • Build and manage a team as the function scales
  • Partner directly with senior leadership and investment teams to identify where AI can move the needle
  • Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions on tooling, infrastructure, and talent
  • Represent the AI function to the firm's leadership and, where relevant, to external partners
Must-haves:
  • Significant senior-level experience leading AI or ML efforts, ideally with some exposure to financial markets. This is non-negotiable for the role
  • A track record of building and scaling a team, not just an individual technical track record
  • Comfortable operating with a broad, not fully defined mandate
Nice-to-haves:
  • Experience at a hedge fund, bank, or other financial institution
  • A public track record (publications, talks, open-source) that signals depth in the field
  • Experience standing up a function from scratch
