Position Summary:
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive veterinary anesthesiology services within the SSVM Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital while contributing to clinical teaching, student mentorship, and continued service excellence.
The Anesthesiology Service is actively seeing patients and has established clinical workflows, referral relationships, and hospital support systems. The successful candidate will join a functioning specialty service with the opportunity to contribute to continued growth, expanded clinical capabilities, and educational excellence.

Anesthesia and Pain Management at SSVM
The Anesthesia and Pain Management Service provides comprehensive perioperative care for companion animals and exotic patients while supporting SSVM’s mission to develop confident, practice-ready veterinarians.
The service is designed to:
Deliver individualized, evidence-based anesthetic and analgesic care
Provide preanesthetic evaluation, anesthetic planning, advanced monitoring, and postanesthetic management
Support acute and chronic pain management using multimodal approaches
Collaborate closely with surgical, dental, diagnostic imaging, and other clinical services
Promote patient safety through standardized protocols, quality improvement, and thoughtful case review
Provide outstanding clinical learning experiences for students and trainees
Advance clinical scholarship and innovation in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia
The Anesthesia and Pain Management Service is supported by:
Experienced veterinary technicians and clinical support staff

Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative care for patients across hospital services
Perform preanesthetic evaluations, develop individualized anesthetic plans, and oversee advanced physiologic monitoring and recovery
Provide consultation for acute and chronic pain management
Support anesthetic care for routine, complex, and high‑risk procedures
Collaborate with primary care and specialty clinicians to provide integrated patient care
Develop, implement, and evaluate anesthesia, analgesia, patient‑safety, and perioperative protocols
Participate in clinical teaching and mentorship of veterinary students, interns, residents, and veterinary technology students
Contribute to anesthesia curriculum development, simulation, clinical skills instruction, and assessment
Support the professional development and clinical training of veterinary technicians and other hospital colleagues
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality review, and service development
Engage in scholarly activity or clinical research consistent with individual interests

Required Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree
Completion of a veterinary anesthesia and analgesia residency or comparable specialty training program
Board certification or board eligibility through the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA)or equivalent
Eligibility for veterinary licensure in New Jersey
Demonstrated expertise in veterinary anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative patient management
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary specialty hospital
Strong interest in clinical teaching and mentorship

Salary and Benefits:
In accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act, the anticipated salary range for this position is$150,000–$200,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications, experience, clinical expertise, academic rank, appointment track, and appointment percentage. Final salary will be determined at the time of offer.

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University invites applications for a faculty position in Anesthesiology. This is a full‑time, 12‑month academic position at the rank of Instructor, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Appointment may be in a tenure, educational, or clinical track depending on the qualifications and goals of the successful candidate. Candidates must possess a DVM or equivalent degree, be eligible for licensure in the State of New Jersey, and board-certified or board eligible in ACVAA. The successful candidate will be a founding faculty member of the SSVM and play an integral role in the development and delivery of an integrated veterinary curriculum constructed around organ systems. Service duties include clinical service for the SSVM teaching hospital. This 50,000 square foot state‑of‑the‑art facility located on the Glassboro Campus provides both primary and specialized care for companion, food and fiber animals throughout New Jersey and surrounding states. Creative scholarly activity is expected to advance the discipline of veterinary anesthesia/analgesia though the creation and dissemination of new knowledge, but the extent will depend on the candidate’s appointment and may include collaborative or independent research.
