Electrical Powertrain Software Engineer

Job Purpose: At this Career Level, the Engineer is capable of performing tasks related to electronics development of Powertrain ECU systems with moderate oversight, utilizing their engineering skill to overcome standard development issues.  Powertrain ECU systems may include Engine Control, Transmission Control, All-wheel Drive Control, Electric Vehicle Motor and Battery Control, or other related areas involving the development of electronic hardware, software and electrical system architecture. Key Accountabilities Project and team management: understanding project expectations, correlating technical details with key stakeholders and negotiating the schedule for deliverables while maintaining the project schedule relevant to your assigned system or function. Engineering specification design for Powertrain ECU applications, including electrical circuit hardware and software using flowcharts or state machines in tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, MS VISIO, or other tools as necessary. Engineering troubleshooting, root cause analysis and solution design: Working hands-on and using industry standard tools and methods in prototype or mass production level vehicles to identify Powertrain electronics functional issues and the steps required for resolution. Testing and verification of ECU specifications related to hardware and software: Performing testing in prototype or mass production level vehicles related electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) or verification of technical change points to ensure proper electrical functional performance, quality and reliability. Improvement and innovation: Investigating new processes or technologies to improve Powertrain electronic system performance or development capability and efficiency. Understand and ensure conformity of your assigned system to external requirements such as Regulations, ISO standards, Cyber Security, and other necessary certifications. Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.0-2 years relevant experience working with automobiles or electronics in a personal or professional setting. Understanding of automobile powertrain system function and operation. Working Conditions Remove/Install electrical components in a test vehicle, sometimes involving difficult physical access. Driving vehicles for testing purposes, sometimes in extreme cold or hot climates (-30degC to 50degC) Periodical domestic and international travel to test facilities, factories, suppliers. (
