Apply for this role →About The Benefit Doctor At The Benefit Doctor, we believe your business deserves better care. We are a leading employee benefits consulting and brokerage firm dedicated to simplifying the complex world of benefits for mid-sized businesses (50–500 employees). Our mission is to "Cure the Pain" of employee benefits by revolutionizing how they are built, educated, enrolled, and supported. We act as a trusted physician for our clients' benefits strategies, diagnosing what's working, prescribing tailored treatments, and providing year-round care. Unlike traditional brokers who disappear after renewal season, we stay with our clients every step of the way. We are looking for a passionate, client-focused Benefits Consultant to join our growing remote team and help us deliver exceptional care to our clients.
Position Overview:
As a Remote Benefits Consultant at The Benefit Doctor, you will serve as the primary strategic advisor for a portfolio of mid-sized client companies. You will design, implement, and manage comprehensive employee benefits packages that balance cost containment with competitive coverage. You will also educate employees, ensure compliance, and provide year-round support—embodying our "physician" approach to benefits consulting. This is a fully remote role, ideal for a self-motivated professional who thrives in a client-facing position and is passionate about simplifying benefits for growing businesses.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Plan Design & Consulting Conduct thorough "initial exams" of client benefits programs, including claims analysis, employee demographics, and cost reviews. Design customized benefits packages (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, wellness, and voluntary benefits) tailored to each client's unique workforce and budget. Align benefits strategies with client organizational goals and growth plans. Carrier Negotiation & Cost Management Leverage strong carrier relationships to negotiate competitive rates and favorable plan terms. Identify cost-saving opportunities through smart funding models, plan design adjustments, and data-driven recommendations. Monitor plan performance year-round and recommend adjustments before issues become costly. Compliance & Regulatory Support Ensure client compliance with all applicable regulations, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and state-specific requirements. Conduct regular compliance checkups and provide guidance on regulatory changes. Prepare and file required documentation accurately and on time. Employee Education & Communication Develop clear, jargon-free communication strategies to help employees understand and utilize their benefits. Conduct virtual employee education sessions, open enrollment meetings, and one-on-one benefits counseling. Create enrollment materials, FAQs, and digital resources that empower employees to make informed decisions. Year-Round Client Support Serve as the primary point of contact for client HR teams and employees, providing responsive, white-glove support. Troubleshoot claims disputes, coverage issues, and mid-year plan adjustments. Conduct quarterly and annual client reviews to assess plan performance and client satisfaction. Build lasting, trust-based relationships with clients, acting as their on-call benefits physician. Internal Collaboration Collaborate with The Benefit Doctor's internal team to share insights, best practices, and industry trends. Contribute to the continuous improvement of our consulting processes and client experience.
