THE ROLE: The Metals Supply Management Lead is responsible for the day-to-day tactical management of metals including steel coil, AL, and copper tubing supply across four Haydon manufacturing locations. This role ensures consistent steel availability by managing weekly steel releases, inventory levels, supplier coordination, logistics timing, and supplier performance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Weekly Metals Release Planning & Execution Develop and issue weekly steel release schedules to steel service centers. Convert production forecasts and MRP requirements into accurate weekly metals demand. Ensure coil specifications, grades, gauges, and widths align with each site’s production schedule. Rebalance weekly releases as needed to support fluctuating demand or inventory imbalances. Inventory Management Across All Sites Monitor inventory levels at all Haydon facilities and supplier locations daily/weekly. Maintain compliance with min/max, safety stock, and turn-rate targets. Identify and resolve potential shortages, aged material, or excess inventory. Track steel on-hand, steel in transit, open releases, and open orders. Supplier Performance & Daily Coordination. Serve as the primary day-to-day liaison with all steel service centers. Track and report supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality issues, responsiveness, and release adherence. Lead supplier-related issue resolution and corrective actions (excluding commercial/pricing negotiations).Escalate chronic service or quality issues to leadership. Logistics & Scheduling Support Coordinate coil shipment timing with suppliers and carriers to ensure uninterrupted flow and minimize variable costs. Route deliveries to the correct Haydon location based on production priorities. Monitor freight delays, rejections, and shipping deviations; drive corrective actions. Cross-Functional Communication Partner with Production Planning, Plant Managers, Operations, and Quality teams to align steel availability with production needs. Provide real-time steel status updates, shortage notifications, and delivery ETAs. Support new product launches by ensuring steel readiness and supplier alignment. Data Accuracy & Reporting Maintain accurate material, release, and inventory data in the ERP system (SAP S/4HANA preferred).Generate weekly and monthly reporting on steel usage, inventory health, and supplier performance. Analyze steel consumption patterns and propose adjustments to stocking strategies or release cadences.
Professional Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or equivalent experience.3–7 years of experience in supply chain, materials planning, or inventory management. Experience with steel coils, metals, or industrial manufacturing strongly preferred. ERP proficiency (SAP S/4HANA preferred) and strong Excel/data analysis skills. Strong supplier coordination and multi-site operations experience.
