Tool & Die Technician, Holland MIThis role focuses on tool and die repair for plastic injection molds in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. The position is available on 2nd shift (Monday-Friday, 3:00 pm-11:00 pm) and 3rd shift (Sunday-Thursday, 11:00 pm-7:00 am). Training will take place on 1st shift for the first few months. The role requires working every 3rd or 4th weekend, typically on Saturdays, and being on call every 8 weeks on weekends. This is strictly a repair-focused position, not a tool and die maker role.
Responsibilities: Read and interpret blueprints, verbal instructions, written instructions, or existing parts to determine repair requirements and setup approach. Plan the setup and operation of a wide range of machine shop tools, selecting appropriate materials, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, feeds, and speeds. Perform welding on tools and parts as required, including TIG (Heliarc) welding and benching in cavities. Determine inspection specifications and use precision measuring and gauging tools to inspect work before, during, and after machining. Carry out hand operations necessary for producing and repairing tools and molds using standard trade hand tools. Fit and assemble tools and molds, set up and test molds to produce parts that meet specifications, and trace mold issues to their source to correct them. Collaborate with product designers to provide input on manufacturing capabilities for newly molded products when needed. Repair and maintain hot runner, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on molds, or actively learn and gain experience in these areas. Perform extensive plastic injection mold repair, or develop the skills and experience required to do so effectively. Use grinding, machining, and other tooling techniques to perform die repair on plastic injection machinery. Adhere to safety procedures and quality standards while working with machine tools, welding equipment, and molds. Respond to on-call responsibilities every 8 weeks on weekends and support weekend production needs as scheduled.
Essential Skills: Minimum of 5+ years of tool and die repair experience or a relevant tool and die license. Proven experience in tool and die repair on plastic injection machinery. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately. Strong skills in machining, grinding, and general tooling operations. Hands-on experience with die repair in a manufacturing environment. Competence in using precision measuring and gauging tools for inspection. Experience with TIG (Heliarc) welding and benching in cavities, or the ability to perform welding as required. Valid driver's license. Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift and meet weekend and on-call schedule requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications: Experience with hot runner systems, or willingness to learn and gain the required experience. Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems in mold repair, or willingness to develop these skills. Extensive plastic injection mold repair experience, or strong interest in learning and expanding expertise in this area. Comfort working with product designers to provide input on manufacturing capabilities for new molded products. Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose mold issues and implement effective repairs. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.

Work is performed primarily on 2nd shift (Monday-Friday, 3:00 pm-11:00 pm) or 3rd shift (Sunday-Thursday, 11:00 pm-7:00 am), with training initially on 1st shift. Weekend work is required every 3rd or 4th weekend, typically on Saturdays, and there is an on-call rotation every 8 weeks on weekends. Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $66560.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
