Role Description: The NEBB Certified Technician (CT) for air and water balance is a full-time, on-site role based in Charlotte, NC. This position is responsible for performing air and water balancing of HVAC systems in new and existing buildings, following NEBB procedures and project specifications. Day-to-day tasks include measuring and adjusting airflow and water flow to design requirements, documenting test results, and preparing clear, accurate reports for project stakeholders. The technician will interpret mechanical drawings, coordinate with project managers and site personnel, and troubleshoot system performance issues as needed. The role also involves maintaining test instruments, following safety protocols, and representing the company professionally at job sites.
Qualifications: Technical balancing and NEBB-related skills: NEBB CT certification (or strong progress toward certification), solid understanding of air and water balancing procedures, and familiarity with HVAC systems and components. Measurement and documentation skills: Ability to use balancing instruments (such as flow hoods, manometers, and thermometers), accurately record field data, and prepare organized, detailed reports. Blueprint and specification skills: Capability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, and project specifications to verify system performance against design criteria. Safety and site readiness skills: Commitment to following job-site safety rules, proper use of PPE, and adherence to company and customer safety policies. Communication and teamwork skills: Effective verbal and written communication, ability to work cooperatively with general contractors, mechanical contractors, and project managers, and a professional, solution-focused approach. Work habits and physical requirements: Reliable attendance, ability to work on-site in a variety of building conditions, willingness to travel locally to job sites, and capability to lift equipment and work from ladders or in mechanical spaces as needed.
Education and experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in HVAC or mechanical systems and prior TAB or field service experience are strongly preferred. Additional beneficial qualifications: Valid driver’s license with a good driving record, basic computer skills for report preparation, and familiarity with applicable codes and standards related to HVAC performance.
