General Statement of Job Function The Electronic Resources and Reserves Librarian provides strategic oversight, administration, and ongoing management of Denver Seminary’s electronic library resources and print and electronic course reserves. The position ensures that databases, eBooks, streaming media, online learning objects, research tools, and reserve materials are discoverable and accessible through the library catalog, library website, research guides, and learning management system. Working closely with faculty, seminary departments, library colleagues, patrons, and vendors, the Librarian manages the electronic-resource lifecycle, resolves access issues, evaluates usage and emerging practices, supports research and instruction, and maintains copyright-compliant course reserves. The position also participates in Standing Faculty Committees as requested by the Provost and manages library operations in the absence of the Director of Library Services.
Essential Functions: Electronic Resources Management
Manage the full lifecycle of subscribed and acquired electronic resources in support of Denver Seminary’s curriculum, degree programs, theological education, and research needs. Administer the electronic-resource functions of the integrated library system, including vendor, licensing, access-rights, holdings, and resource information. Maintain authentication protocols and proxy configuration files used to provide reliable access to electronic resources. Troubleshoot access issues involving databases, eBooks, streaming media, and other specialized resources; coordinate prompt resolution with vendors and internal partners. Collect, organize, analyze, and report usage statistics to support renewal, acquisition, budget, and service decisions. Manage expenditures and budgets associated with electronic research materials in coordination with library leadership. Develop and implement strategies that promote electronic resources and increase awareness and use across the Seminary community. Coordinate electronic-resource policies, delivery methods, and advocacy with Educational Technology, academic programs, and other Seminary partners. Monitor emerging resources, practices, standards, and trends in electronic-resource management, discovery, access, usage statistics, and data management. Evaluate and incorporate appropriate open-access resources and maintain accurate, consistent item information to support discovery and retrieval. Electronic Resource Acquisitions Coordinate digital acquisitions with Educational Technology, academic programs, and library colleagues. Serve as the primary liaison with vendors for resource trials, licensing, acquisitions, implementation, and service support, including platforms such as the Digital Theological Library, EBSCOhost, OverDrive, and eReserve Plus. Partner with the Collection Management and Technical Services Librarian to evaluate purchase recommendations from faculty, staff, students, and other patrons. Ensure publications by Denver Seminary faculty are acquired when appropriate and discoverable through the library catalog. Course Reserves and Copyright Administration Manage all facets of physical and electronic course reserves, including locating, evaluating, acquiring, processing, and maintaining resources in alignment with library priorities and the acquisitions budget. Oversee implementation and ongoing administration of course-reserve software and its integration with the Seminary’s learning management system. Communicate with faculty and course representatives to obtain syllabi or reading lists before course start dates. Verify requested citations and materials, determine existing ownership or access, and identify materials that should be ordered. Maintain accurate tracking records for physical and electronic reserve titles, syllabi, and related requests. Process and maintain materials for the library reserve shelf each academic term. Scan book chapters and journal articles when requested and permitted by applicable copyright law and institutional policy. Review reserve requests and practices for copyright compliance and communicate requirements to faculty and course representatives. Web Services, Research Guides, and Discovery Serve as the primary contact and liaison for online learning objects and web-based research support tools, including content, design, and technical development. Collaborate with library colleagues and faculty to create research- and reference-focused digital materials. Create, update, and validate content in the library website, LibGuides, and Seminary content-management systems in accordance with institutional standards. Support integration of applications that improve the user experience in discovering and accessing library resources across devices. Design and lead ongoing usability testing of the library website; coordinate participants, analyze feedback, implement improvements, and communicate results. Educate Seminary departments and stakeholders about library resources, services, access, and discovery tools. Reference, Instruction, and Patron Support Provide responsive reference assistance by phone, email, video conference, and in person. Teach patrons research methods, use of reference sources, and appropriate citation practices. Offer research workshops and collaborate with faculty and library colleagues to provide course-specific resource instruction. 32. Create and maintain research guides that provide bibliographies, citation support, and research-method guidance. Use effective reference-interview techniques and independent professional judgment to identify patron needs and provide appropriate support. Secondary Functions Manage library operations and systems in the absence of the Director of Library Services. Participate in Standing Faculty Committees as requested by the Provost. Maintain professional relationships and participate in relevant professional organizations and development opportunities. Assist with circulation desk coverage as needed as part of the library team’s shared responsibilities. Serve as staff at Seminary functions and events as requested. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience: Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science degree from an ALA-accredited program preferred. Master’s degree in theology or a related field preferred. Five or more years of related library training and/or experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of library policies, procedures, electronic-resource lifecycles, course reserves, and copyright compliance. Proficiency with integrated library systems, preferably WorldShare Management Services, and with eReserve Plus, learning management systems, LibGuides, proxy servers, online databases, and web content-management tools. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Strong organizational, analytical, project-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities amid frequent interruptions. Ability to troubleshoot complex access and technology issues and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. Strong interpersonal, instructional, customer-service, and teamwork skills, including the ability to work effectively in a collegial environment. Ability to assess needs; develop and implement services or programs; supervise and instruct others; resolve conflict; and exercise courtesy, tact, initiative, integrity, and independent professional judgment. Manage electronic-resource subscriptions, vendors, licenses, budgets, renewals, and usage data effectively to support responsible financial and collection decisions. Provide responsive research assistance, instruction, and digital research tools that strengthen faculty, student, and staff success. Maintain strong departmental and vendor partnerships, documented workflows, and reliable library operations, including during the Director’s absence. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Normal office working conditions, including computer usage, may require occasional standing, walking, long periods of sitting, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
