Patent Agent – Mechanical Engineering

About the Role: The firm's patent prosecution team partners with clients to secure protection for their most valuable innovations. The group handles all aspects of patent prosecution—from drafting and filing applications to conducting examiner interviews and freedom-to-operate studies—helping clients navigate complex IP landscapes efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities: Draft and prosecute patent applications in mechanical, electrical, and computer science disciplines. Conduct prior art searches, analyze patent and scientific literature, and prepare freedom-to-operate and clearance opinions. Respond to USPTO and international office actions, including analyzing references and crafting persuasive arguments. Collaborate with inventors and in-house counsel to understand new technologies and develop tailored patent strategies. Contribute to the development and management of client IP portfolios. Present findings and strategies clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Participate in a collaborative work environment, with approximately 60% in-office participation expected.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Registered or eligible for registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively. Team player with a proactive and collaborative approach.

Compensation & Benefits: Base salary range: $120,000 – $220,000 Annual bonus eligibility. Comprehensive benefits package offered.
