Job Description:
The Department of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (DNSE) seeks an Academic Laboratory Support Technician to maintain theinstructional infrastructure that supports the departments missionto provide students with hands-on learning experiences usingadvanced semiconductor fabrication and nanotechnology equipment. The incumbent will provide technical support for the operation, maintenance, repair, installation, and safe use of sophisticatedsemiconductor and microelectronics processing equipment, measurement systems, and supporting infrastructure located in theDNSE "Innovation Lab" nanofabrication cleanroom facility, andmultiple educational laboratories across DNSE. By ensuringequipment operational capabilities, supporting laboratoryinstruction, training students, and maintaining a safe environment, this position is essential to the College.
Primary Responsibilities:
Laboratory Equipment Maintenance, Repair, and Technical Support
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair highly sophisticatedlaboratory equipment and tooling to support semiconductor andmicroelectronics education.
Customize, modify, and upgrade legacy equipment within the DNSEdepartment to improve equipment utilization, safety, andperformance.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on laboratory andcleanroom equipment.
Monitor the day-to-day operational status of tools andequipment located in the Innovation Lab cleanrooms and laboratorieswithin the DNSE sections of the NY CREATES Albany Nanotech Complex.
Schedule and coordinate required maintenance and repairactivities to maximize equipment availability.
New Equipment Installation and Commissioning
Coordinate with site engineering and safety teams in theexecution of equipment installations.
Provide process readiness and process acceptance documentationto equipment vendors.
Assess new equipment acquisitions for compatibility withexisting infrastructure.
Install utility connections to new equipment, includingelectrical, compressed gases, and fluid lines, including fluid- andvacuum-tight assembly such as compression fittings, metalgasketing, and tube welding.
Laboratory Operations and Safety
Develop and implement administrative and engineering controlsfor the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and unusedchemicals in accordance with University and site policies.
Support the safe operation of cleanroom and laboratoryfacilities by monitoring equipment functionality and identifyingoperational or safety concerns.
Ensure laboratory operations comply with applicableenvironmental, health, and safety requirements.
Training and Academic Support
Train faculty, staff, undergraduate students, and graduatestudents on the safe operation and proper use of cleanroom andnanofabrication equipment.
Provide technical guidance and support to students engaged inlaboratory coursework, research activities, and engineeringprojects.
Assist with laboratory-based instructional activities andfabrication efforts.
Inventory, Asset, and Resource Management
Maintain equipment inventories, operational status records, andpreventive maintenance schedules.
Coordinate the ordering of supplies and maintain purchasingrecords in collaboration with the Academic Engineering Support Group (AESG) Manager.
Lead asset management activities, including equipmentdecontamination, decommissioning, and disposal of obsoletelaboratory assets.
Departmental Equipment and Project Support
Assist other members of the Academic Engineering Support Groupwith departmental requests for equipment relocation and projectcoordination at the direction of the AESG Manager.
Provide additional technical support for educational andteaching activities related to DNSE laboratories.
Other Reasonable Duties as Assigned

Job Requirements:
Broad knowledge of scientific equipment pertaining to physics, chemistry, materials, and engineering. Track record of working witha team.
Mechanical skills related to cleanroom / semiconductor waferprocess technology.
Ability to work in cleanroom environment and around functioningelectrical equipment including: high voltage systems, vacuumsystems, and gas / fluid control and distribution systems, compressed gasses, chemicals, wet and dry laboratory equipment, andvariable lighting conditions (yellow light cleanroom environment, dark spaces).
Ability to safely work in laboratory environments and complywith all University, site, and environmental health and safetyrequirements.
Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with students, faculty, instructors, researchers, and external users in support ofinstructional, research, and laboratory operations.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited bythe US Department of Education or internationally recognizedaccrediting organization.
3 to 5 years of relevant experience in cleanroom andsemiconductor fabrication and/or research experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fieldfrom a college or University accredited by the US Departmentof Education or internationally recognized accreditingorganization.
5 to 10 years of experience in a cleanroom/semiconductorfabrication environment, or comparable laboratory environment within-depth knowledge of managing research laboratory conditions.
Experience in an academic laboratory environment.
Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, vacuum, andcompressed gas systems
Working Environment:
University laboratory and office environment
Ability to lift 40lbs and work standing for multipleconsecutive hours.
