Equipment Operator I

Working Conditions: Responsible for the satisfactory and safe operation of vehicles and equipment under all types of weather conditions on paved and dirt roads. Majority of tasks are performed outdoors and veryfrequentlyin extreme weather conditions. Subjected to insects, noxiousfumesand constant noise. Must?be able to pass a pre-employment physical that screens for?acceptable?eyesight and hearing (with or without correction), the ability to sit for extended periods, and manual dexterity needed to?operate?job relatedmachinery.?? Operates or drives a dump truck, participatesin the loading and unloading of materials Checks condition of truck or equipment beforeoperating; performs light maintenance on vehicle such as checking and adding oil, fuel, waterand air; changes tires; cleans and washes vehicles or equipment Performsstreet repair, bridge maintenance, installs culverts, removal of trees off right of ways, repairing drivewaysand the maintenance of ditches Performsskilled manual work in conjunction with job assignments; loading and unloading materials, operateschain saws, cementsawsandvarious typesof hand tools Visuallyidentifieshazards to safe operation of problem areasand reports or corrects them Work is performed independentlyin accordance withdefinite instructions from a supervisor who reviews work through observation for compliance with work schedules and instructions Required to work during a local declared state of emergency

Minimum Experience: High School education or G.E.D. preferred and oneyear’sexperience in vehicleandequipment operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a valid Florida CDL Class B Driver’s Licenserequiredwithinninety(90) days from hire date. Considerable knowledge of the practices applied to the safe and skillful operation and care of vehicles and equipment Ability to learn, understand and abide by all traffic laws and county regulationspertaining tothe safe operation of vehicles and equipment Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions Ability to communicate with fellow employees and thegeneral public Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offeringto helpothers when needed and considering large organization or team goals rather than individual concerns
