The Principal Librarian will lead the music library at the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, ensuring all musical materials are prepared and distributed in accordance with program requirements. This role involves coordinating with conductors and managing library operations, including the maintenance of library materials and the ArtsVision database. The librarian will also support the orchestra's strategic initiatives, including digital strategy and commissioning new works. Key responsibilities include procuring and preparing music for performances, managing budgets, and supervising library staff. The librarian will participate in concert duties, confirm instrumentation, and ensure compliance with licensing agreements. Additionally, the role requires proofreading and editing music materials, as well as contributing to digital content planning for recorded or streamed initiatives. Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in music and at least five years of professional experience in a symphony orchestra library. A strong knowledge of music theory, orchestration, and performance practices is essential, along with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure. The ideal candidate will be a team player, capable of collaborating with diverse personalities within the orchestra.
