Apply for this role →Registered NurseThe Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers. The RN dispenses and administers medications. They assist Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients. The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. They perform all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their education and licensure. The RN attends sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents. They prepare a list of inmates/residents to be examined and prepare examining rooms and equipment. The RN operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures. They call Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders or other emergencies. The RN examines and assesses new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries. If needed, they refer inmates/residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facility. The RN performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies the Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders. They assist in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. The RN monitors inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate. They provide guidance and supervise nursing care provided by Licensed Vocational/Practical Nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. The RN maintains a good working relationship with facility staff and various medical providers. They utilize established policies and procedures in decision-making while using sound independent judgment. The RN evaluates medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of services. They maintain the absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. The RN assists with the review of medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. They closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses. The RN audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed. They comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially concerning controlled substances. The RN observes and records inmate/resident behavior. They inspect the medical unit for contraband items and securely store or safely dispose of supplies and equipment. The RN provides health counseling and education on an individual or group basis. They assist in preparing and maintaining various standard records, reports, and logs. The RN reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures. They review, process, and respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings when necessary. The RN facilitates accreditation of the medical program by providing approved and appropriate medical services. They prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures. The RN takes appropriate action in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
