We are currently looking for a Director of Engineering to join our Engineering team located at our office in Raleigh, NC. Our ideal candidate for a Director of Engineering is someone who has 10+ years of mechanical or civil experience with 3-5 years in a leadership role. The Director of Engineering provides comprehensive leadership for all engineering personnel within the office, driving technical excellence while ensuring alignment with corporate standards and client expectations. This role manages an office or department's overall engineering operations, staffing, and financial performance. As the senior engineering leader for the office, the Director sets local operational policy and process improvements, oversees multiple Engineering Team Leads/Managers, and partners with business development on pursuits and client strategy. This role carries office-level P&L or department budget responsibility. Primary responsibilities for iENG’s Director of Engineering include: Manage all engineering personnel for the office location, including Engineering Team Leads and engineers at every level Oversee hiring, performance reviews, and professional development initiatives Provide mentoring, coaching, and career guidance • Lead training programs and technical development opportunities Address performance issues and implement improvement plans Developing, maintaining, and improving QC standards, checklists, workflows, and SOPs; ensure review schedules align with project timelines. Manage office-level P&L or department budget Monitor project budgets and engineering hours across the office portfolio Ensure compliance with engineering standards and code requirements Set local operational policy and drive process improvements Provide technical oversight on complex engineering projects Participate in design turnover, VDC turnover, and build strategy meetings Partner with business development on pursuits and client strategy Advocate for proper engineering and VDC support from project management teams Collaborate with Engineering Team Leads on workforce planning and resource allocation Coordinate with other offices and business units on project staffing needs Conduct weekly debriefs with the VP/Senior VP, Office/Region Encourage team site visits and participate in site walks with junior team members Office P&L Ownership - Full operational accountability for the office/department's engineering function Technical Oversight - Providing technical oversight on the office's most complex engineering projects Staffing and Capacity Planning - Managing all engineering personnel, hiring, and workforce planning for the office Business Development Partnership - Partnering on pursuits, proposals, and client strategy Standards and Quality Oversight - Ensuring compliance with engineering standards and code requirements Future: Regional Coordination - Coordinating staffing and initiatives with other offices/business units Primary qualifications for iENG’s Director of Engineeringinclude: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related field. (B.S. required) Master’s degree or MBA preferred Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in one or more states strongly preferred.10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with at least 3- 5 years in a leadership role. Multi-office collaboration experience preferred.
