R.J. Corman Railroad Company is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to join our team in Towanda, PA.
Responsibilities: Ensure the safe, efficient, and profitable general management of railroad operations. Assist with scheduling, coordinating, and supervising personnel, materials, tools, and equipment in daily operations. Perform the duties of the Train Crew Members they supervise as needed. Fill in for the Operations Manager in his/her absence. Apply FRA safety rules and procedures Maintain availability 24/7/365 for emergencies and operational needs. Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience: Familiarity with and ability to apply FRA safety rules and procedures. Self-motivated leadership skills. Good communication skills. Railroad experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements: Able to perform physically strenuous work. Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires occasional use of a 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force. Requires occasional use of a 10 lb sledgehammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force. Able to work outdoors in inclement weather. Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails, and ballast in a safe manner. Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary. Must be able to lift, carry, stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach out, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.
Work Environment: Work is performed outside in varying types of environmental conditions. Requires extended periods of strenuous physical activity under various field and weather conditions. Operates in a fast-paced work environment. Performs duties in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment. Frequent exposure to weather elements. Appropriate PPE required for job site visits.
