Peer Advisor
REPORTS TO: Site Coordinator / Site Lead
JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and caring Peer Advisor to inspire and support elementary school students in their academic, social-emotional, and personal development. The Peer Advisor serves as a positive role model and mentor, creating a safe, engaging, and fun learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, learn, and grow.
In this role, the Peer Advisor will lead interactive educational activities, provide homework assistance, facilitate enrichment programs, and foster meaningful relationships with students. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children, brings creativity and positivity to every interaction, and is committed to helping students build confidence, develop strong character, and discover a love for learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Create Engaging Learning Experiences
Plan and facilitate fun, interactive, and age-appropriate activities that promote academic growth, creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking. Incorporate games, hands-on projects, and enrichment activities that make learning exciting for elementary-aged students.
2. Foster Positive Relationships and Mentorship
Serve as a positive role model by building supportive relationships with students. Encourage confidence, self-esteem, respect, and responsibility while creating a welcoming environment where every child feels valued and included.
3. Provide Academic Support and Homework Assistance
Support students with homework, reading, writing, mathematics, and other foundational academic skills. Utilize engaging and creative instructional strategies tailored to diverse learning styles and developmental needs.
4. Support Social-Emotional Learning
Help students develop important life skills such as communication, emotional regulation, problem-solving, teamwork, and conflict resolution through daily interactions and structured activities.
5. Facilitate Recreational and Enrichment Activities
Lead recreational games, arts and crafts, STEAM activities, literacy enrichment, wellness exercises, and other hands-on learning experiences that encourage student participation and curiosity.
6. Promote Student Engagement and Participation
Encourage active involvement in daily program activities by creating a fun, energetic, and positive atmosphere. Recognize student achievements and celebrate progress to motivate continued participation.
7. Monitor Student Safety and Well-Being
Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment by supervising students at all times and responding appropriately to student needs while adhering to program and district safety guidelines.
8. Track Attendance and Student Participation
Maintain accurate attendance records, assist with daily sign-in and sign-out procedures, and monitor student involvement in program activities.
9. Support Program Administration and Documentation
Complete required reports, activity logs, student progress updates, and other program documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
10. Collaborate with Team Members
Work closely with Site Leads, Site Coordinators, teachers, staff, and fellow team members to support student success and ensure high-quality program implementation.
11. Participate in Training and Professional Development
Attend required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills in youth development, classroom management, and instructional engagement.
12. Maintain Professional Communication
Respond promptly and professionally to communications from supervisors and team members while contributing positively to a collaborative work environment.
13. Demonstrate Flexibility and Initiative
Be adaptable, energetic, and willing to assist with special events, field trips, family engagement activities, and additional program needs while maintaining a positive, solution-focused attitude.
14. Uphold Professional and Ethical Standards
Maintain professionalism, reliability, confidentiality, and integrity in all interactions with students, families, staff, and community partners.
15. Comply with Policies and Procedures
Adhere to all NCRF, district, and site-specific policies, procedures, and expectations while supporting the mission and goals of the program.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate’s Degree or higher.
Experience: Preferably a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Activity: Regularly required to sit, lift, carry, move around, listen, and communicate effectively.
Computer Use: May involve extended periods of work at a computer display terminal.
Lifting Requirements: Occasionally required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25–50 pounds.
BENEFITS: Paid Vacation Hours
PAY RANGE: $18.00–$20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
