Associate Multifamily Underwriter Roc360 is seeking an Associate Multifamily Underwriter to join our growing and fast-paced underwriting team. The Associate Multifamily Underwriter will manage a pipeline of multifamily BPLs. On a day-to-day basis, the candidate will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and making decisions on mortgage underwriting files to determine compliance with company and investor/buyer multifamily underwriting guidelines, including collateral and budget analysis, data validation, borrower background and credit review, entity compliance, and borrower/investor experience. The Associate Multifamily Underwriter will underwrite Roc360's loans throughout the country, including bridge and Ground Up Construction loans. The Associate Multifamily Underwriter will be expected to have a strong understanding of Roc360's multifamily loan programs, products, and guidelines, as well as a robust understanding of the lending life cycle in general for Roc360's various loan products. The Associate Multifamily Underwriter must possess exemplary attention to detail, be self-motivated, and have the ability to make data-driven decisions independently, while managing risk and ensuring the quality and compliance with company and investor/buyer guidelines and standards.
Responsibilities: Actively manage a pipeline of multifamily BPL loans on a daily basis, ensuring each transaction progresses efficiently while maintaining adherence to Roc360's credit philosophy and investor/buyer requirements. Identify, evaluate, and mitigate loan-level risk by ensuring loan quality, creditworthiness, and full compliance with company guidelines and capital provider expectations, including proactively resolving deficiencies or documentation challenges. Review and validate loan files for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with underwriting standards, program parameters, and investor/buyer credit criteria. Stay current on company policies, capital provider guidelines, and updates to multifamily loan programs, incorporating changes into underwriting recommendations and pipeline management. Communicate promptly and effectively with Underwriting Managers, Credit leadership, and internal stakeholders to maintain loan momentum and support a best-in-class customer experience. Collaborate with Roc360's Credit Committee, synthesizing feedback from capital providers and loan buyers to enhance credit execution and contribute to ongoing initiatives that strengthen origination credit quality. Demonstrate a strong understanding of the needs of clients, loan buyers, and capital providers, working cross-functionally with Originations, Operations, Capital Markets, and other internal teams to align credit decisions with business objectives while upholding risk discipline.
Qualifications
Education & Professional Background: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Economics, Accounting, or a related quantitative field; advanced degree (MBA/MSRE) is a plus.3–5 years of progressive experience in real estate finance, underwriting, acquisitions, investment analysis, or related CRE roles. Hands-on experience evaluating and structuring multifamily transactions, including value-add, stabilized, and new construction deals. Background working with lenders, private credit platforms, real estate investment firms, or multifamily operators preferred.
Financial & Analytical Expertise: Advanced financial modeling capabilities, including DCF analysis, cash flow forecasting, IRR/NPV modeling, debt sizing, and sensitivity scenarios. Ability to analyze budgets, operating statements, rent rolls, historical P&Ls, and pro formas to determine sustainable NOI/NCF.Strong understanding of valuation methodologies (income capitalization, sales comparison, replacement cost).Experience reviewing and incorporating third-party reports such as appraisals, engineering/PCAs, Phase I ESAs, and market studies. Proficiency in Excel; working knowledge of Argus or other underwriting tools a plus.
Market & Industry Knowledge: Strong grasp of multifamily sector dynamics, including supply/demand trends, submarket drivers, expense benchmarks, and rent growth assumptions. Familiarity with loan structures across bridge, construction, and private credit executions. Understanding of capital markets, DSCR requirements, leverage metrics, covenants, and lender/investor underwriting criteria. Knowledge of regulatory considerations such as rent stabilization, affordability programs, and local housing policies (as relevant).Knowledge and understanding of relevant commercial real estate business plans such as value add, core, core plus, etc. Familiarity and understanding of GSE-backed programs such as Freddie SBL and/or Fannie Mae programs.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Ability to translate complex quantitative analyses into clear, actionable investment or credit written skills for preparing investment memos, credit packages, and presentations for senior leadership. Effective interpersonal skills with experience collaborating across originations, credit, asset management, and executive stakeholders. Confident communicator able to discuss deal assumptions, risks, and mitigants with both internal teams and external partners.
