School Nutrition Manager Under limited supervision, a School Nutrition Manager will, through active participation, provide the coordination, oversight, and execution of nutritionally adequate meals to school aged children meeting the reimbursable meal requirements per the federal guidelines. Plan, coordinate, and prepare menus, standardized recipes, policies and programs for: Standard operating procedures to be utilized by directly supervised employees. Supervise food production, while verifying compliance to health and safety regulations, policies and procedures. Maintains accurate daily, weekly, and monthly financial, meal production, and forecasting reports. Submits accurate documentation as requested by School Nutrition leadership. Assists in the hiring and/or evaluation of a school nutrition assistant, substitute, etc. Accountable for school nutrition funds under direct control Accurately maintain records as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law. Provides job training for newly hired employees following established safety and health regulations. Requests work orders, equipment inspections, repairs, and replacements to ensure safety operating conditions for staff. Directs cashier responsibilities following proper cash handling procedures. Plans and performs daily activities in the kitchen and cafeteria to support school nutrition assistants i.e. food preparation, food service, dishwashing/cleaning, etc. Manages inventory deliveries to ensure accurate record keeping and use of foods and supplies. Conducts inspections of storage to maintain compliance to food storage guidelines. Builds relationships with school staff and community members, i.e. parents. Reviews and submits staff timesheets and attendance documentation to payroll. Effectively produce professionally written correspondence across various communication mediums, i.e. cell phone, computer. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of Union County Public Schools Nutrition manager training
  • High School Diploma or equivalent or the equivalent combination of industry training and experience
  • One (1) year experience in Institutional Food Service
Desirable Qualifications: Completion of North Carolina Department of School Nutrition Professional course Development Coursework General knowledge of materials and methods used in the preparation and service of meals of a large quantity. General knowledge on the use of food preparation equipment. General knowledge of food service safety, i.e. ServSafe, and sanitation guidelines. General knowledge of U.S.D.A rules and to work with diverse individuals and/or group. Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing in stressful and emergency force 10-25 lbs., frequently; and up to 50 lbs., occasionally; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices. Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
