The New York State Department of Financial Services seeks a Special Advisor to the Superintendent for Technology Policy to provide strategic counsel on technology regulation and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. The role will develop policy approaches to balance innovation with consumer protection, manage stakeholder engagement, and support implementation of new regulatory frameworks including New York's Responsible AI Safety Education law. This position reports to the Superintendent and serves in the Executive Division.
Key qualifications: At least 14 years of relevant work experience, including 5 years in financial or technology policy development and regulation at managerial level Master's degree in public policy, computer science, or business; law degree; or Ph.D. in finance, economics preferred Substantial policy and regulatory experience in data privacy, machine learning, algorithmic decision-making, AI regulation, and related areas Ability to navigate state and federal policy-making and develop strategies for new regulatory authorities Record of rigorous analysis of complex problems expressed in clear, persuasive written work product Familiarity with DFS jurisdiction including banking, non-bank financial services, virtual currency, and insurance
