Apply for this role →Make Your Passion Your Work New Energy Economy was founded in 2004 to build a carbon-free energy future for our health and the environment. New Energy Economy is known for our bold positions and watch-dog role as the organization goes head to head with New Mexico's largest corporation, Public Service Company of New Mexico, the formidable oil and gas industry, and their political allies to expose the fatal flaws of the current extractive energy model and its corrupting influence on our political system, to lift up, demonstrate, and demand an alternative democratized, resilient, and just energy system, and to fight for accountability and environmental, economic and racial justice for New Mexicans. New Energy Economy employs public education, direct action, public policy advocacy, targeted litigation methods, and model solar energy projects to shift our energy economy from fossil fuel and nuclear extraction to clean alternatives in pursuit of environmental justice and human and environmental health. New Energy Economy received the 2012 Sustainable Santa Fe Award in Renewable Energy for its Sol Not Coal Project, the Santa Fe Community Foundation's prestigious Visionary Leader Award in 2013, the 2016 City of Santa Fe Energy Advocacy Award, and the 2016 Climate Courage Award from the Climate Change Leadership Institute. Since that time New Energy Economy has featured in national conferences from New Orleans to San Francisco to present on front page victories in energy justice. Additionally, New Energy Economy is known for our collaborative campaigns that combine legal interventions at the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission and NM Supreme Court with grassroots organizing in order to protect people's health; to protect water, air, and land; to advance clean energy; and to combat climate change. Our work focuses on fighting to protect the interests and needs of diverse constituencies, especially low-income ratepayers, and Indigenous and communities of color who are disproportionately impacted by corporate and extractive energy, rising energy costs, and climate destabilization.
