Shifts:
Monday-Friday 3:00PM-11:00PM & Sunday-Wednesday 11:00PM-7:00AM
Support Staff are responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for all shelter guests. Candidates should have a caring heart and be comfortable maintaining good boundaries while helping people in crisis. Shelter Support staff should be able to work independently as well as with a team. Experience in a helping profession preferred. Experience working in residential programs, a plus.
Terms of Employment : We have openings for part-time and full-time positions (non-exempt/at will) Compensation range is: $19.00-$22.00/hour. Part-time employees receive accrued PTO and Sick Time as well as paid time off for holidays/birthday. Full-time employees are eligible for health insurance coverage.
Job Description:
The primary role of the Shelter Support Staff is to build relationships with guests, provide program coverage, maintain guest safety, monitor the security of the buildings, and provide crisis intervention and support. In addition, the Shelter Support Staff are responsible for documenting the services provided and coordinating services and support across all H.O.M.E., Inc. Shelter programs and shifts.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Understanding and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Understanding of homeless services and related challenges.
Commitment to cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Understanding of mental illness, substance use and co-occurring disorders.
Ability to establish and always maintain professional boundaries in relationships and interactions with clients.
Ability to work as part of a team and according to program and agency policies, practices and procedures.
Ability and willingness to perform tasks as directed/requested to meet program and client needs.
Skills in effective, respectful, and professional communications with clients, team members, and other service providers.
Effective crisis intervention skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement in challenging situations.
Ability to consistently work shifts as scheduled.
Cleaning of buildings as directed.
Other duties as assigned include (but are not limited to) lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects (up to 30 pounds).
Required Skills, Qualifications, and Physical Requirements:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact with the shelter guests in a safe and appropriate manner.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries.
Ability to demonstrate compassion and consistency and remain firm when enforcing Shelter policies.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and vehicle insurance as driving your own vehicle at times is required.
Basic computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Suite and Google Docs.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) up to 75% of the time.
Must be able to ascend and descend stairs and get in and out of a vehicle frequently.
Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
Must be able to perform cleaning duties including (but not limited to) vacuuming, dusting, mopping, laundry, and making beds.
