Utility Operator Trainee

Utilities Operator Trainee The Utilities Operator Trainee is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance of the City's water distribution system, wastewater treatment facilities, and related utility infrastructure. This position provides on-the-job training under licensed operators and prepares the employee for TCEQ certification and advancement. Examples Of Duties Operations & Training Assist with daily water and wastewater system operations Learn to monitor pumps, blowers, valves, and treatment processes Assist with water and wastewater sampling and testing Record operational data and support reporting requirements Maintenance & Field WorkAssist with inspections and basic maintenance of equipment Support cleaning of facilities, tanks, and work areas Assist with flushing, leak response, and service issues Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas Compliance & Learning Attend required training and pursue TCEQ certification Follow safety procedures and standard operating procedures Learn regulatory requirements for water and wastewater systems Emergency & On-Call Duties Respond to alarms, system failures, and emergency events Participate in after-hours call-outs as training progresses Assist during severe weather and emergency operations Other Duties Perform other related duties as assigned Typical Qualifications Skills & Competencies Willingness to learn water and wastewater operations Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment Basic mechanical aptitude Dependability and strong work ethic Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labor QualificationsEducation & Experience High school diploma or equivalent Mechanical, plumbing, or utility experience preferredTCEQ Class D Water or Wastewater License preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months
