As a Sales Specialist in our Humanities and Social Sciences group, you will serve as the strategic driver and subject matter expert for high-value, complex opportunities across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Partnering closely with local Field Sales Representatives and Regional Managers, you will help win and retain critical department- and campus-level adoptions. Extensive travel across the territory during peak selling seasons—including campus visits, regional workshops, and national conferences is central to this position.
What You'll Do:
Drive Strategic Growth: Target and close Must-Win Opportunities across HSS disciplines through impactful sales presentations, First Day of Class (FDOC) campus visits, and presence at regional and national conferences.
Champion Technology & Modern Models: Drive digital-first adoptions by spearheading LMS integrations, Inclusive Access models, and courseware implementations.
Partner & Mentor in the Field: Collaborate with Field Sales Representatives and Regional Managers to co-strategize on complex deals; model best-in-class consultative selling and presentation skills during campus work trips.
Deliver VIP Onboarding & Support: Ensure long-term adoption retention by providing specialized post-sale training, course customization, LMS troubleshooting, and onboarding for high-profile adopters.
Build Strategic Sales Tools:
Develop regional sales strategies, presentations, and resources that empower the broader sales team to win competitive takeaways.
Maintain Pipeline Hygiene: Accurately track opportunities, sales activities, and adopter data within our CRM system.
Inform Product & Marketing Strategy: Act as the voice of the market, sharing competitive intelligence and faculty feedback with editorial and product teams to guide future development.
What You'll Bring
Industry Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of higher education publishing sales or marketing experience (specifically within correlated HSS or STEM disciplines).
Strategic Selling Expertise: Proven ability to navigate complicated, multi-stakeholder sales cycles and close high-value adoptions.
Dynamic Presentation Skills:
Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated success presenting to large faculty committees, department chairs, and campus administrators.
Collaboration & Autonomy: Strong ability to operate independently on the road while collaborating seamlessly with sales reps, editors, and regional leadership.
Technical Proficiency: High comfort level with CRM software and digital learning platforms.
Travel Willingness: Ability and enthusiasm to travel extensively across the 11-state territory during peak seasonal periods.
Nice to Have:
Experience with emerging educational technologies and digital tools; supporting and setting up LMS-integrated courseware; piloting innovative sales approaches such as virtual demos or targeted faculty campaigns.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Territory Travel:
Extensive travel throughout CT, DE, ME, MD, MA, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, and VT (driving, flights, and frequent overnight stays during peak fall/spring selling seasons).
Campus Mobility: Ability to walk extensive campus grounds (up to multiple miles per day) and stand for extended periods at conferences and events.
Workload: Regular periods of close concentration, multi-tasking, and seasonal overtime exceeding 40 hours per week during peak adoption cycles.
Regular full-time employees and qualifying dependents are eligible for Macmillan benefits effective on the first day of hire (including health coverage for qualifying domestic partners):
Competitive salary plus bonus plan
