Position Summary: The Lead Teacher is responsible for administering child care programs at designated YMCA program sites. This includes creating and implementing lesson plans, maintaining site records, and ensuring state licensure compliance and overall effective program management. The position may require travel between branch locations for trainings, meetings, or instruction, and the teacher will be actively engaged in childcare programs 100% of the time.
Essential Functions: Maintain safety of children by appropriately supervising program participants at all times while maintaining YMCA and state licensing staff‑to‑child ratios. Use age‑appropriate techniques for behavior management. Plan, develop, and implement appropriate lesson plans and activities, following YMCA curriculum guidelines, and incorporate them into the daily schedule. Complete and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports in a timely manner as assigned by supervisor, including attendance, CACFP, etc. Maintain a file system that includes all policies, school‑year schedules, ODJFS child day care rules, child enrollment information, and staff files. Provide coverage of program as needed and arrange for substitute instructors in coordination with supervisor. Notify supervisor of any parent concerns or unsafe conditions at the center, and foster ongoing communication with supervisor regarding center operations. Communicate with supervisor regarding essential supplies such as first aid and blood‑borne pathogen protective equipment, snacks, etc. Be responsible for administering first aid to children or staff if required. Ensure daily cleaning and maintenance of space/facility. Work with supervisor on promotional activities and flyers. Collaborate with supervisor to develop and distribute site informational newsletters to parents. Follow YMCA and state quality guidelines in operating the site. Develop and maintain positive communication with parents. Develop and implement family activities/events. Represent YMCA by developing positive working relationships with program participants and parents. May need to be named on the license and support the Site Director in ensuring all licensing requirements are followed.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications: Minimum high school diploma.
Certification in CPR at the level of Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration, and associated safety training required within 30 days of hire. Experience Minimum 2 years working in a licensed childcare program. Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred. Minimum 1 year of experience with Microsoft Office products. Minimum 1 year of experience with all ODJFS licensing procedures and Step Up to Quality requirements preferred. Technical Skills and Knowledge A willingness and ability to act as a mandated reporter for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. Excellent time management, customer service, attention to detail, and organizational skills. Ability to multitask and handle a high volume of work. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite with excellent Excel skills; experience with comparable payroll/HRIS systems (ADP, Kronos, or Ceridian) preferred. Physical Demands Ability to drive from site to site throughout Northeast Ohio. Frequent communication with students. Frequent walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and kneeling to child’s eye level, and maintaining a clean work environment. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Work Environment May be required to work outside and encounter inclement weather on occasion. Work performed in a classroom setting with moderate noise and standing for long periods of time. Ability to travel as required.
