General Surgery Registered Nurse

Hartford Healthcare seeks a Registered Nurse for our General Surgery unit in Manchester, CT. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to post-surgical patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, physicians, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure safe recoveries and excellent patient outcomes. Responsibilities include medication administration, patient and family education, discharge planning, and documentation. Provide comprehensive nursing care to general surgery patients pre- and post-operatively Conduct patient assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans Administer medications, treatments, and interventions per provider orders and protocols Monitor patient status, recognize changes, and respond to emergencies promptly Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members for coordinated care Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record Ensure adherence to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards Participate in unit-based quality improvement and professional development activities Support a culture of compassion, teamwork, and patient-centered care General surgery nursing care Patient assessment Care planning and care coordination Medication administration Post-operative monitoring and recovery management Wound and drain care Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation Patient and family education Infection control and safety protocols IV therapy and venipuncture Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Active RN license in the state of Connecticut Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred or obtained within designated timeframe Prior acute care or surgical unit experience preferred
