The Position:
As the Controls Commissioning Onsite Supervisor, you will lead and supervise onsite controls commissioning activities for automated material-handling solutions and production lines. You will serve as a key connection between controls engineering, electrical engineering, installation, and project management teams while coordinating schedules, tracking commissioning activities, and ensuring successful project delivery at customer sites.
Primary responsibilities include:
Lead commissioning activities, ensuring systems are tested, calibrated, and verified according to project requirements.
Serve as the primary point of contact between controls engineering, installation, electrical engineering, and project management teams during commissioning.
Coordinate commissioning plans and schedules with the Controls Project Manager to maintain project timelines and adjust activities as needed.
Ensure commissioning activities follow OSHA safety procedures, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Perform system testing, including I/O checks, functional testing, and full system operation to verify system performance and integration.
Track commissioning activities, test results, and system modifications for project turnover and client handover.
Provide project updates, lead client walkthroughs and handovers, and address questions or concerns from customers and stakeholders.
Travel extensively to customer sites, both domestically and internationally.
Qualifications and Candidate Background
The ideal candidate will have:
5+ years of hands-on Controls Engineering experience, preferably with project management or leadership responsibilities.
Bachelor’s degree in Controls-related Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or an associate degree with equivalent experience.
Strong knowledge of PLCs and HMIs, with hands-on experience in industrial automation and control systems.
Understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, including the ability to read electrical and AutoCAD drawings.
Prior formal or informal leadership experience in controls engineering, commissioning, or industrial automation.
Experience working through full design-to-production project lifecycles.
Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work safely and effectively in industrial and warehouse environments.
Location:
This role is based in Grand Rapids, MI, with a travel-based work arrangement requiring 90-100% domestic and international travel. Your information will not be shared with any outside parties without your prior consent.
