Apply for this role (opens in a new tab)About the Role:
We manufacture welded stainless steel exhaust assemblies. We're looking for a Robotic Welding Engineer who works hands-on at the cell and also drives process development. You'll program robots, develop and optimize MIG and TIG weld parameters, and own the robotic welding process from new-part launch through stable production.
Key Responsibilities:
Program, touch up, and optimize robotic weld paths on our OTC Daihen robots, and support future robot and welding cobot deploymentsDevelop, document, and optimize MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) parameters for thin-wall stainless steel tubing and assembliesDevelop weld processes for Inconel and other nickel alloys, including filler selection and heat input controlSolve weld quality problems: burn-through, porosity, lack of fusion, distortion, and oxidation/sugaringDesign and improve weld fixtures, tooling, and positioner setups for repeatability and cycle timeImplement and tune seam tracking and touch sensingCreate and maintain WPS/PQR documentation and weld inspection criteria, including cut-and-etch/macro testingLead robotic welding work on new product launches, from feasibility and quoting input through production releaseImprove cycle time, first-pass yield, and consumable cost through data-driven process changesEvaluate and specify new robotic and cobot welding cells, and work with integrators and OEMs on installation and buy-offTrain operators and technicians on robot operation, basic touch-ups, and weld quality standardsSupport PFMEA, control plans, and root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why) for weld-related issues Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Welding, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or 5+ years of equivalent hands-on robotic welding experienceHands-on programming experience with at least one major industrial robot brand (FANUC, OTC Daihen, Yaskawa Motoman, ABB, or similar) Strong working knowledge of MIG and TIG processes, including independent parameter developmentExperience welding stainless steel, preferably thin-wall tube or sheetAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and AWS weld symbolsComfortable working on the production floor and splitting time between the cell and the desk Preferred QualificationsOTC Daihen robot experienceExperience with multiple robot platforms and offline programming/simulation softwareWelding cobot experience (e.g., Universal Robots-based welding packages or similar) Inconel or other nickel alloy welding experienceExhaust, automotive, or tube fabrication industry backgroundAWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Robotic Arc Welding (CRAW) certificationFamiliarity with IATF 16949, PPAP, and APQPSpanish language skills
