Ur-Energy is the largest and fastest-growing ISR uranium mining company in the United States. It owns and operates the Lost Creek ISR uranium facility in south-central Wyoming, and the Shirley Basin ISR operation in central Wyoming. We're helping secure a domestic supply of nuclear fuel, and we're looking for a land-focused attorney to help us grow.
The Role:
We're hiring an Assistant General Counsel to assist with our mineral land portfolio and acquisition projects. You'll report to the General Counsel and work closely with Geology, Operations, Engineering, HSE, and executive management. You'll manage landmen, surveyors, and outside title counsel, and you'll draft and negotiate the leases, access agreements, and conveyances that keep our projects moving. You'll also support the General Counsel on commercial contracts, and you'll be able to build experience across permitting, securities, corporate governance, transactions, litigation, and HR matters.
What You'll Do:
•Oversee the Company's land portfolio, including mineral, surface, leasehold, easement, right-of-way, and access interests
•Plan and manage land acquisition projects for exploration and development, from ownership identification through securing rights
•Engage and direct landmen, surveyors, and outside counsel, including setting scopes, priorities, deadlines, and budgets
•Draft, negotiate, and administer mineral leases, access agreements, easements, exploration agreements, deeds, and conveyances
•Oversee land maintenance obligations, including lease rentals, royalties, option and exploration payments, and claim maintenance fees
•Build and maintain relationships with landowners, mineral owners, government agencies, and other stakeholders
•Make sure land records, ownership data, maps, and land databases are accurate and complete
•Support title, contract, and permit due diligence for acquisitions, joint ventures, and financings
•Draft and negotiate operational contracts, including drilling, rig acquisition and lease, service, commercial, and confidentiality agreements
•Support HSE, permitting, and regulatory compliance work as needed
•Travel periodically to mine sites, project areas, courthouses, government offices, and landowner properties What You Bring
•J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
•Active law license in good standing in Wyoming or another Western U.S. state
•5+ years of oil and gas and/or mining land and mineral title legal experience at a law firm or in-house
•Significant experience with mineral and surface ownership, title opinions, title curative work, and land agreements
•Significant experience with federal public lands, including the Public Land Survey System, BLM's Mineral & Land Records System, and BLM regulations
•Strong legal writing, drafting, and negotiation skills
•Practical, business-minded judgment and the ability to work through complex land, title, and contract issues on your own
•Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office
•Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record
Preferred
•Experience directing contract landmen, surveyors, and other outside contractors
•Experience with land management databases and GIS
A Plus
•Familiarity with the General Mining Law
•Experience with drilling, services, and commercial contracts
•Familiarity with NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, or uranium mining licensing and regulation Work Environment
This role is based in our Casper office and includes periodic field visits. Field work can involve driving long distances, walking on uneven terrain, outdoor weather, PPE, and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
