Apply for this role →Children’s Eye Care of Michigan, one of the largest pediatric ophthalmology practices in the United States, is seeking a fellowship-trained, board-certified/board-eligible pediatric ophthalmologist to join our physician-owned private practice in metropolitan Detroit. This opportunity is for a pediatric ophthalmologist who wants the best of both worlds: the autonomy and collegiality of private practice combined with the complex pathology, teaching and academic involvement typically associated with a major children’s hospital. Founded in 1973, Children’s Eye Care has built an extensive referral network throughout Michigan and the surrounding region. Our physicians practice across suburban offices as well as our academic clinic at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. The breadth of our referral base provides exposure to both high-volume pediatric ophthalmology and unusually complex medical and surgical disease. The Clinical Practice
Our physicians provide comprehensive pediatric ophthalmic care as well as adult strabismus care. We are specifically seeking a pediatric ophthalmologist who is comfortable managing: Pediatric glaucoma, including medical and surgical managementInfantile and juvenile cataractsRetinopathy of prematurity, including screening and treatmentPediatric ocular traumaPediatric strabismus and amblyopiaAdult strabismus preferred but not requiredPediatric lacrimal diseaseOcular manifestations of genetic, neurologic and systemic diseaseOur physicians are supported by an experienced team of eight certified orthoptists, pediatric ophthalmic technicians, opticians and administrative professionals with systems specifically designed around pediatric ophthalmology. Children’s Eye Care offers a model that is increasingly difficult to find: an independent, physician-owned pediatric ophthalmology practice with substantial academic involvement. Our Detroit academic clinic is located at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where our physicians participate in the education of approximately 26 ophthalmology residents and 50 medical students. The practice sponsors an AUPO-accredited pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship, providing opportunities for teaching and mentorship. Just as importantly, our physicians remain part of a privately owned group. Clinical and business decisions are made by physicians and leadership who understand pediatric ophthalmology not by a distant health system. Why Children’s Eye Care?
This is an established practice with decades of history, a substantial referral network and the infrastructure already in place to support a busy pediatric subspecialist. A new physician is not being asked to build a pediatric referral base from scratch. Our practice offers: A large and diverse pediatric patient population Significant complex medical and surgical pathology A mature ROP programExperienced orthoptic and clinical supportTeaching and fellowship involvementOpportunities for research and academic appointmentsThe professional autonomy of an independent physician-owned practiceCompetitive compensation and comprehensive benefitsRetirement benefits and generous paid time offContinuing medical education and support for professional involvementLiving in Metro Detroit
Metro Detroit offers an appealing combination of major-city amenities and highly livable suburban communities. Physicians can choose among vibrant urban neighborhoods, established communities with excellent schools, or lake-oriented suburban living – all within a reasonable commute of the practice. The region offers major professional sports, an internationally recognized arts and music community, outstanding restaurants, extensive parks and trails, and easy access to Michigan’s lakes and outdoor recreation. Compared with many major metropolitan areas, Southeast Michigan also offers an attractive cost of living and housing market.
